How do you measure a successful person? What does success mean to you?
Becoming successful in anything is sure about available options. Some of us are more lucky than others. But it's more about making the most out of opportunities coming your way, about following your heart, about setting the right priorities, about decisions you make, about your ability to learn from your losses and mistakes, about the level of your determination and persistency needed to overcome hundreds of obstacles on the way to reach those goals and dreams of yours.
At least by my opinion, the success shall not be measured by winning, neither by wealth, or by what others think of you, but about that feeling, that you have done and tried everything you could and learned from it. It's fantastic, when you become more versatile, flexible, adaptable, knowledgeable and therefore potentially more helpful to others... more complex individual. But at the end of the day... you want to be satisfied with what you do, who you are, and who you're surrounded by... you want to be IN PEACE with yourself, you want to be HAPPY. Medals, trophies, wealth, power, or respect wont give you that feeling.
So it seems to me like, that the success is only what you make it to be. Becoming a slave of the fake image of success presented by the society is very easy. Don't let others to drag you, misguide you with their perception of success, or judge you by their norms. Find it your self. Being successful in reaching that point is more difficult than winning any grand slam or an Olympic medal.
In last few years I started reassessing my values and goals. I now often ask myself questions such as: am I fighting for the right cause? am I not wasting my life proving others wrong? am I a soldier on the right battleground? Is this bringing me anywhere close to where I really want to be, where I should be?
Those, that were able to find their inner peace and happiness are the most successful champions to me.
