23RD INTERNATIONAL SAMBO TOURNAMENT IN LÜNEBURG SETS PARTICIPATION RECORD

The German city of Lüneburg hosted the 23rd International SAMBO Tournament, drawing more than 200 athletes – from the youngest competitors to seasoned veterans. The event became one of the largest in the tournament's history in terms of participation.

Athletes from 18 German clubs took to the mat, joined by representatives from 12 countries: England, Lithuania, Moldova, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Latvia, Finland, Hungary, Romania, and Syria.

“This wonderful sporting event was held at a high organizational and technical level, in an atmosphere of friendship, respect, and mutual understanding,” said Oleg Derkach, chief referee and one of the tournament's lead organizers.

Derkach extended his appreciation to all referees who worked throughout the competition. Despite the large number of participants and bouts, he noted, the officiating panel demonstrated outstanding professionalism, impartiality, and excellent coordination.

The team standings were determined as follows:
1. SAMBO Combat Cobra
2. SAMBO Combat Gryphon
3. BKSV Hamburg

The tournament closed with what has become a cherished tradition: Oleg Derkach prepared authentic Uzbek plov for all participants – a gesture that has come to symbolize the hospitality, friendship, and unity of the SAMBO community.

“The International Tournament in Lüneburg once again proved that SAMBO brings together people of different nations and generations, strengthening friendship, mutual respect, and international sporting cooperation,” he said.

ASIA AND OCEANIA SAMBO CHAMPIONSHIPS AND YOUTH AND JUNIOR SAMBO CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HELD IN MANILA FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY

From June 25 to 28, Manila, Philippines, will host two major continental SAMBO events: the Asia and Oceania SAMBO Championships for senior athletes and the Asia and Oceania Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships. The competitions will take place at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium and mark the first time in history that the premier SAMBO events of the continent are held in the Philippines.

Earlier, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) officially expressed its support for the organization of the Championships. PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio emphasized that hosting international sporting events of this scale plays an important role in promoting sports tourism and strengthening the country’s position as a destination for major international competitions.

The events are organized by the SAMBO Union of Asia and Oceania(SUAO) in cooperation with the Philippine SAMBO Federation (PSFI). Organizers expect more than 500 athletes, coaches, officials, and delegates from 31 countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific region to take part in the championships.

Medals will be contested across three age categories.

The youngest competitors, youth aged 16-18 (born between 2008 and 2010), will compete exclusively in Sport SAMBO.

Youth Men (Sport SAMBO): 53 kg, 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg

Youth Women (Sport SAMBO): 47 kg, 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, +80 kg

Junior athletes aged 18-20 (born between 2006 and 2008) will compete in both Sport SAMBO and Combat SAMBO.

Junior Men (Sport SAMBO): 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg

Junior Women (Combat SAMBO): 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, +80 kg

The same disciplines and weight categories will be contested at the Asia and Oceania SAMBO Championships for senior athletes aged 18 and above.

Men (Sport SAMBO): 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg

Women (Sport SAMBO): 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, +80 kg

Men (Combat SAMBO): 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg

Women (Combat SAMBO): 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, +80 kg

Sport SAMBO competitions will be conducted using a repechage system, with athletes who lose to finalists eligible for bronze medal contests. Combat SAMBO events will follow a direct elimination format without repechage. Officiating duties will be carried out by referees certified by FIAS and SUAO.

Anti-doping testing during the championships will be conducted by the International Testing Agency (ITA), a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-recognized organization, in accordance with the FIAS Anti-Doping Rules. In addition, a mandatory anti-doping seminar for all athletes and team officials will be held on June 24, one day before the start of competition.

Live streaming of the Asia and Oceania SAMBO Championships and Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships will be available on www.sambo.live.
