Upgrade Your Self-Care Game🧘‍♀️🌅

Never underestimate the power of self-care. I’ve been talking and writing a lot about this topic lately and let me tell you – it’s time to switch it up everyone! It’s time to upgrade your self-care game💖

For me, prioritizing myself means feeling amazing! It means feeling empowered. It also means that I can perform at my best.

I've made quite a few positive changes throughout the past couple of years. I’ve been working extra hard at making three things a priority for myself – setting clear and healthy boundaries – finding joy in the present moment instead of looking back or trying to control the future – and making sure that SELF-CARE COMES FIRST…again!

Self-care is an essential part of our lives. But life gets busy and unfortunately, it's so easy to start abandoning ourselves. We put others first. We say “yes” when all we really want is to say “no”. We make less and less time to do the things we love.

One thing I've been reflecting on a lot lately, is how important it is for me to surround myself with positive people who encourage me, uplift me, and support my dreams no matter what they are👈

I've realized how extremely draining and stressful it is for me to be around negativity – negative thoughts, negative moods, criticism, and disrespect.

It's true, we can’t always choose colleagues, classmates, or even relatives who have negative attitudes and mindsets – but sometimes, maybe limiting how much we share with them, or how much time we spend with them is key.

What WE CAN choose however, is our friends and our partners. So, make sure you're choosing wisely! Positivity is contagious!

Increase the time you're spending with positive people who share common interests, hobbies, and goals – positive people who make you laugh and appreciate you. Focus on those goals, good times, and of course positive energy!

Life is so precious – stay close to anyone and anything that makes you happy💗🌟

When I learned to understand and appreciate the value of failure, everything changed🏆🎯🔑

I used to think that failure was bad, weak, and embarrassing. There was a time when I was so incredibly hard on myself, I couldn't even accept failure. It was so exhausting, I knew I had to change the way I defined failure.

I eventually realized that the reason why failure was hurting me so much was that I was giving it the wrong meaning. Sure, failure can hurt sometimes, but it's an important part of life – and we need to experience it in order to grow!

I decided to learn to embrace failure. I chose courage instead of pity. And I changed my mindset completely by always reminding myself of the following:

✔ Failure is an opportunity to grow and reshape

✔ Failure is an opportunity to take positive action towards our goals

✔ Failure is a part of our learning process

✔ Failure builds character and motivation

✔ Failure is the best teacher we can ever get

I chose to write about this topic today because I experienced failure just a few hours ago – I've been competing in the CrossFit open games, and I wasn't able to complete this week's workout within the assigned time cap. Did I feel a bit disappointed? Of course!! But it's not going to stop me! I'll be back in the gym tomorrow, feeling stronger and ready to keep working on my fitness goals💪

Time to share some positive thoughts – and let's celebrate our wins✨

What can you do today that you couldn't do a year ago? What have you improved on? What have you discovered about yourself?

I can proudly say that I've embarked in a super fun and motivating CrossFit journey, which challenges me every single workout. I've discovered that I'm now quite comfortable with change. I've learned to hesitate less and take more chances. I've learned to practice more self-care. I've improved my German a bit and I'm pushing myself to go out of my comfort zone even if that means making mistakes. And I've improved at setting boundaries for myself.

Sometimes we forget just how much we're constantly learning and growing. So, today is the day to take a moment and reflect on all the amazing things we're doing! Cheers to that!

One thing I started doing a few months ago, and I'm fully committed to keep doing, is making at least the first 30 minutes of every single day about ME. That means no phone for a minimum of 30 minutes after I wake up. Yes, you read that right! It means no social media, no texting, no distraction. I know some of you are probably cringing just thinking about this idea, and it probably sounds like an impossible thing to do – but it is 100% doable, and quite frankly necessary if you ask me. I want to tell you why I started doing this, and how it has impacted me in such a positive way. So, I encourage you to keep reading!

I'm the kind of person who tends to go above and beyond to help others, especially loved ones. I know what you're maybe thinking here – and this is a problem, how?!

Well it's not. Helping others is actually a wonderful thing to do. The problem I was having was that I was at a point where I was prioritizing everyone else's issues before mine, which is when it became quite unhealthy. I would sometimes even feel some anxiety the moment I would check my phone – you guessed it, first thing in the morning. The way I look at it now is that I didn't always give myself a chance to start the day off on a positive note. It was time for some needed reflection and a change.

I'm a true believer that you need to take care of yourself first in order to be able to help others in the most meaningful ways. By taking this little bit of time for myself every morning, I'm setting myself up for success!

What does this mean? It simply means that I'm in a much better position to give my absolute best. I now feel ready again to tackle my days with positive energy and good intentions.

So, here's what you should try doing:

➡ Keep the phone away! Make a point to put your phone on "do not disturb", or plug it in in the kitchen before you go to bed instead of keeping it on your nightstand.

➡ Prioritize what matters to YOU. Set your intentions for the day! Whether it's making time for a great workout, or it's moving a step forward on that project you've been working so hard on.

➡ Your health, your time, your goals, your projects should ALL be prioritized first thing in the morning before the daily distractions start rolling in. Write your goals down and reflect on them.

Make this a priority you won't regret! Just 30 minutes!

As we are quickly approaching the end of 2023, I wanted to ask all of you – have you started reflecting on your experiences from this year? What worked? What didn't work? What did you spend too much time or energy on? What did you handle well? Did you engage in self-care? How are you different than when you started the year? What surprised you the most about yourself?

One thing I have always loved is exercising. Whether I get a hard workout in, or I simply go on a short hike – I just love the feeling, and of course that extra boost of energy and confidence I get every single time!

So, what surprised me the most about myself this year?! What worked? Well.....I decided to step out of my comfort zone in my workouts to achieve a better me! I chose to engage in self-care like never before. I decided to switch things up and really challenge myself. And so, my CrossFit journey began! After only a few months, I feel stronger, more energetic and confident, and most importantly, I want to keep improving all of that!💪

But wait – by no means am I a CrossFit expert. I still have so much to learn. But I wanted to share this positive experience with you – to encourage you to try something new and to step out of your comfort zone, whatever this might be for you. And why wait until January, right?!😉

Always remember this – never be afraid to start over! Whether you want to pursue a new career or a long-held dream – or you simply want to travel the world for a while. I mean, how cool is it to realize that there are no limits to starting over?!

Starting over is an opportunity – not a setback. Plus your past experiences (good and bad) will only give you unique insights and perspectives😉

I have learned to trust MYSELF more and more over the past few years – instead of paying too much attention to people's negative opinions and disapprovals. For example, the idea of me moving to Switzerland in 2019 created different reactions – some people thought it was absolutely crazy – and I certainly didn't get everyone's support. But I trusted MY gut feeling, not theirs.

So, be confident! Stay determined! And go for it – whatever starting from experience means for you😊
