Lafarge and Geocycle Canada’s Waste Processing & Decarbonization Project “Phoenix” is in Full Swing
Lafarge and Geocycle’s Project Phoenix in Brookfield, Nova Scotia (Canada) is in full swing! The project site is a hub of activity. It has been cleared and the first foundations are being placed for the facility that will house the pre-processing line. This line will help to convert and prepare different types of non-recyclable residential, construction & demolition, and industrial & commercial wastes for co-processing at Lafarge’s Brookfield Cement Plant. These wastes will not only be diverted away from landfills but they will be completely destroyed and their intrinsic mineral and energy value be captured in the cement manufacturing process.
As the Lafarge cement plant continues to be the largest employer in the local Brookfield community, the project is bringing 5 new direct jobs. Please check for new opportunities at https://www.lafarge.ca/en/careers
Work on the co-processing site will commence shortly. This site will house the upgraded system that will enable the Lafarge and Geocycle team to introduce the processed waste materials directly into the high temperature zones of the cement kiln.
Once completed, the project will allow the Brookfield cement plant to accelerate its transition to lower carbon options, and divert thousands of tons of waste away from landfills. Additionally, the project will further reduce the plant’s CO2 emissions bringing Lafarge and Geocycle closer to our goal of Net Zero.
