Duty Weapons of My Career Part Six

As I’ve stated in the previous episodes this is my last year as Sheriff and I will be leaving Office in January. This will make me four decades in law enforcement and as I have been blessed to retain all of the sidearms I’ve carried on duty. I have decided to carry each of them for one more week each before I move on. The previous posts seemed to be enjoyed so here’s the latest.

This week’s weapon is my Sig Model 229 in 40 S&W. It became our departmentally issued weapon in late 1998 and served me well as I finished my road career as Sergeant and transitioned into investigations.

I previously mentioned Chief Jack Evans and the fact that he was a gun guy (as well as a great Chief). Chief Evans ordered a study of our current fi****ms and am******on while we were carrying the 5906. He announced this during a supervisors meeting and asked for volunteers to conduct it. I was surprised when no one stepped forward so I jumped at it. I figured lots of free shooting right? After all the testing was completed this was the handgun we went with and Wi******er 165 grain Black Talon followed by the SXT when it replaced it.

I know it’s said about a lot of things but I’ve always considered the 220 series of Sigs to be the Cadillacs of the DA/SA semis.

Getting the Smith & Wesson Inc. Performance Center 627 ready for competition is not easy. Holsters, speed loaders, moon clips and pouches don't exist, are not available or difficult to find.
However, we want that 8-round capacity, of course!
Now, we are one step closer: got the holster done DIY style with the professional help of Shadow Lab. Many thanks!!
