United States Women's Disc Golf Championships. What a week!!
Before I say anything, I want to give a HUGE thank you and congratulations to those that deserve it the most. To those who have worked their asses off for the last 2 years (at least) to make this event amazing! Krissie, Steph Vincent (your current USWDGC FP40 Champion!), Renae, Des, Zach, Guy, and MINT DISCS as a whole, you and your team have outdone yourselves! We can't wait to see what the future holds for all of you, Mint Discs, and Sprinkle Valley. I don't know what it is about that place, but there's something special to be earned and gained from Sprinkle, all thanks to the dedication y'all share to growing women's disc golf 🖤🩶🤍
Now, on to the recap. Wilco, Wilco, Wilco. To say my USWDGC experience was a rollercoaster would be an understatement. Wilco is a course that can and will humble you, especially from the rough. Even with that in mind, I felt as though I had put in the practice and had a solid game plan going into round 1. I felt confident, but unfortunately that initial confidence quickly tanked and I dug myself into a hole I wasn't going to be getting out of. I'll be the first to admit, I played scared, and that's when Wilco will take your lunch money. I wasn't committing to my shots and even though I didn't exactly help myself, luck was not on my side either. From there all I could hope for was to improve each round and that's exactly what I did!
As for the takeaways, this one was 99% a mental and 1% ex*****on. My mental game struggled extremely hard for the first round and a half, until I was finally able to use my frustrations for good instead of evil. Once that mental game was on, the ex*****on came easy. Disc Golf is way more fun when you can hit a line off the tee and putt lights out lol My mentality is something I have been consciously working to improve, on and off the course. It's not always easy, but better is always better so I'll take that as a win.
Thank you to my 1100 rated caddy for helping me through this one and keeping me going even through the rough patches, which there were quite a few. Mark, you were the saving grace of my weekend! Thank you again for always working with me, rather than against me and to use the cards I've been dealt in my favor.
Side shout out to Paige for walking the first round with us and helping to keep my spirits up. Big thank you to Tysn Cnls for the positive messages before every round and volunteering at Wilco.
Shout out to my sponsors, and everyone in my corner, for continuing to have my back and supporting me through the good, the bad, and the not so great. This season is already teaching me so much about myself and this game, which wouldn't be possible without all of you!!
