It is a race designed to be a competitive race for the small Kennel owner. We hope that every musher, competitive or not, comes out and enjoys themselves. Running in the north across this vast, beautiful and remote land requires each team to be fully prepared for the extreme cold, changing weather and wilderness conditions. THE RUNNING OF THE RACE 2027

Mushers Awards Banquet - March 27 2027

Registration will open Oct 03 2026 and close Nov 03 2026. Full race rules will be emailed to each team at registration. Contact email is [email protected]

Mushers are expected to arrive between 07:30 and 07:50 with sponsor photos completed from 0800 under the start banner. The race is 100 miles long, there are no dog drops, and there is a 4 hour mandatory lay over period at the checkpoint. The final trail will be discussed at the pre-race meeting, a video may be available before then with the race route. The trail has markers every 0.25 km and is groomed with Hagglunds so is regarded as a fast trail. The race will start no matter the weather. The Race Marshal has the final say over any matter from the start of the race to the closing. Anyone with any complaint must contact the Marshal within reasonable time. Mandatory gear is also part of the rules. PASSING
All dogs must have necklines (including the leaders) unless you are running a single leader. Any team caught after the 2 miles of start must give way if asked by the faster team. The over taken team must come to a complete stop, if asked. Any musher whose team cannot properly pass a stopped team will not be given the right of way. The first 2 miles and the last 1 mile of the race trail will be considered as ‘no-man’s land’. Trail does not have to be given if asked in this area. MANDATORY GEAR
1. 2 working headlamps
2. Lighter or matches
5. 1 lbs of food for every dog on the team
6. 1 set of booties for every dog on the team. (these can be on the dog(s) leaving the checkpoint)
7. 1 dog jacket/blanket per dog

Mandatory gear will be checked at race start. DOG TEAMS
6-dogs maximum per team. Minimum 5 dogs to start. All dogs must be present at the end of the race. PURSE AND AWARDS
Race Purse may not be guaranteed and is subject to sponsorship. Rookie Award, Sportsmanship Award and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th place. No abuse of any kind allowed toward any dog, volunteer or fellow musher will be tolerated. GENERAL RACE RULES

These will be discussed at the mushers meeting. Time and location for this meeting will be announced. (TBC March 25 2027)

Our Underdog traditions include all teams waiting at the finish line together until the final team completes the race, and we all celebrate the last musher arrival.

We have welcomed 5 teams so far to our Underdog100 race for March 2027.

In these times of economic challenges where the price of gas will certainly have an impact on decisions about which races to train for and which races to travel to, we are so grateful to be chosen as part of a mushers's racing season.

Thank you to everyone who has put the Underdog into their calendar for this winter, we really do appreciate your support.

As soon as a team has fully completed the registration process, we'll share their photos and the snippets they have decided to share on their bios.

Now is the time to secure those race places...we don't want you to miss out. So here's the info that you need to register your place for 2027.

Registration closes: 00:00 November 04 2026 (or sooner if we are full)
Maximum number of teams: 15 (FIFTEEN)
Registration fee: $600

We only have 15 spaces for teams this year, and we will only be accepting registrations by email as we did last year. (This is to help us keep track of who registers, and when, as well as ensuring you are in receipt of our race rules before you join our 2027 community.) We will have a waiting list if you miss out in the first wave of registrations.

***IMPORTANT DOG CREEK 100 RACE NEWS***

And a very happy start of dog training season to everyone! Snow dancing starting very soon.

We do have some race updates to share with you.

Firstly we will be bringing the race date forward to December 18 2026 - almost guaranteeing being the first race in your calendar, and an opportunity for some pre-Christmas fun as well.

Our trail will be approximately 80km, and there will be a 3 hour layover in our camp at the half way point.

Registration will open on October 17 2026 and our registration fee will be $250 (Canadian). All registrations will be done by email, ([email protected]) and we'll publish details of how to do this nearer the time.

We want to make this race intimate and fun, so will have a maximum TEN teams entry limit. There'll be a tail-gate banquet at the finish line...Santa suits are optional!

We really hope you'd like to join us to run the trails raced on by our legendary friend Jerry Joinson, in whose memory this race is honoring. A celebration of his life, dogs, friends and family, and a chance to catch up, make new friends, talk about sled dogs, laugh about life, and just have some fun.

We're excited to announce the inaugural Nisbet Forest Odyssey — a 3-day sled dog stage race running Jan 22-24, 2027 in Nisbet Provincial Forest, near Duck Lake, SK.

~30 miles/day on groomed out-and-back trails, with Pro and Explorer classes.
