Winter Get Active grants are now available through the NWT Recreation and Parks Association! Community organizations across the Northwest Territories can receive between $800 and $1,000 to organize and deliver two free community or Elder focused physical activity events.

The program supports opportunities that bring people together, encourage movement, and help residents stay active throughout the fall and winter. Interest is usually very strong, so organizations are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Funding remains available while the application form is open.

Visit the NWT Recreation and Parks Association website to learn more and apply.

Fall/winter Get Active grants encourage communities to host recreational and physically-active events throughout the NWT fall/winter.  These community events must be free-to-the-public and get people physically active together.

Growing the Northern officiating community!!! Eleven youth and eleven adults completed officiating clinics in Iqaluit over the weekend. New officials worked through classroom scenarios, Hockey Canada video clips and on ice instruction, while returning Level 2 and 3 officials completed their recertification.

A big thank you to Paul Clow and Rob Strutz of the Iqaluit Amateur Hockey Association for making the clinics possible, and to Kerby Corcoran and Hockey Nunavut for providing financial and logistical support. A huge thank you to our Referee in Chief Rob Gau!!!

These 22 officials are helping strengthen hockey in Iqaluit and across the North. Congratulations to everyone who completed the clinics!

It is wonderful to see the ARCAN Sport Facility being used by Canada Winter Games athletes and U18 and U15 female athletes from Yellowknife Minor Hockey!!!

The session brought athletes from different programs together for dryland training filled with hard work, encouragement, and plenty of smiles. Everyone challenged themselves and gave their best. Training together creates opportunities to build strength, confidence, friendships, and a stronger hockey community.

Thank you to the coaches and everyone who helped make the session possible!

A beautiful connection between culture, storytelling, art, and hockey.

Artist and storyteller Presten Warren created 12 original paintings for the Youthful Spirits collection, bringing each player’s team colours to life through his distinctive artwork.

It is wonderful to see traditional and cultural expression celebrated within the game and shared with hockey fans through this creative collection.

Take a look at the artwork and tell us which design stands out to you!
