Alumni Update – Dan Dooley

Former Woodstock Slammers captain Dan Dooley continues to make the organization proud through his accomplishments both on and off the ice.

During his outstanding junior career with the Slammers, Dooley recorded 25 goals and 43 assists while amassing 527 penalty minutes in 144 career games. Known for his leadership, toughness, and commitment to the team, Dooley played a key role in the Slammers’ championship season in 2006 and helped lead the club back to the league finals in 2008.

Dooley served as team captain during his time in Woodstock, and in recognition of his contributions to the organization, his number 6 has been retired by the franchise. Beyond hockey, Dooley was also highly respected within the community for volunteering his time and making a lasting impact away from the rink.

Following his junior career, Dooley attended Brock University where he played five seasons with the varsity hockey program while also serving as team captain.

Academically, Dooley later attended Oxford University where he studied Philosophical Theology and earned his prestigious Varsity Blue after helping Oxford defeat Cambridge in the historic varsity hockey game. He would continue his studies at KU Leuven in Belgium, completing a Master’s Degree in Philosophy with a thesis focused on Libertarian Free Will, while also playing professionally for the Leuven Chiefs in the Belgium Elite Hockey League.

Today, Dooley resides in Shannonville, Ontario with his wife Randi and their two children, Soren and Eva. He is the owner of Loyalist Homes Inc., a successful construction and restoration company, while remaining active coaching youth baseball and hockey within the community. Currently, Dooley is also building a home on the family property for his father, who will soon be relocating to live closer to the family.

The Woodstock organization is proud to celebrate Dan’s legacy as a player, captain, community leader, and alumnus, and wishes him continued success in all of his future endeavors.

Alumni Update - Tyler Gale

Woodstock Slammers defenseman Tyler Gale played with the club from 2008 to 2010, recording 8 goals and 34 assists in 90 games while adding 209 penalty minutes. Gale was part of the Slammers’ 2010 championship team that finished the regular season with a remarkable 45-3-1-1 record, setting Maritime Hockey League records for most wins, highest winning percentage, and most points in league history.

I have been an RCMP officer in Alberta for nearly 10 years. In that time I have founded a Fundraising hockey game in memory of Fallen Police officers that has raised over $20,000 in the last 3 years for the Mayerthorpe Minor hockey association. I coach my sons minor hockey team in my community and continue to be involved in hockey as much as I can.

I am travelling to Perth Australia in 2027 to play in the World Police and Fire Games as part of the RCMP hockey team with another Slammer Alum Mitch Price.

My time in Woodstock is some of my best memories. The community, my Billets Craig and Brenda Campbell made my time in Woodstock feel like a second home.

My teammates from those years are still some great friends and we will talk to this day. Winning a championship in 2010 with the group we had felt like winning a title with my family.

I will forever be grateful for my time in Woodstock and I hope all future players have the same experience I did.

Alumni Update - Kyle Chagnon

Kyle Chagnon appeared in 156 games for the Slammers from 2006-2009. The defenseman from Kenora, Ontario recorded 14 goals and 61 assists. The Slammers were defeated by the Yarmouth Mariners in the league finals in 2008. Chagnon stayed on the east coast and attended the University of PEI.

During my time at school, I also got involved in scouting with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL. After graduating, I moved home to Kenora to purchase a local printing business.

While back home, I became heavily involved coaching the Kenora Thistles U18 AAA program where we earned an appearance at the Telus Cup Western Regionals and helped advance many players onto the junior hockey landscape, including two OHL Draft picks.

During COVID, frustrations with the lack of exposure for local players led me to found Monarch Advisory Group to help athletes gain opportunities similar to the ones I had growing up. What started locally quickly expanded to where we now operate across North America and Europe.

Through that growing network, an opportunity came up for me to come out of retirement and play over in the Netherlands with the Breda Yetis, where I led the team in production and finished 4th in league scoring among defensemen. To date, I still sit 5th in franchise history for points in a season and 2nd all-time in both goals and assists in a season.

During our time in Europe, I was also able to secure my wife a playing opportunity, which ultimately led me into the women’s hockey landscape. Today, I operate 98 Hockey Management alongside Monarch Advisory Group, representing professional female athletes in the PWHL and top European leagues. I currently hold certified PWHLPA agent status, and to date we’ve secured over $2 million in contracts, 10 PWHL draft picks, and more than $300,000 in sponsorships and endorsements.

I really enjoyed my time in Woodstock. It’s a small, supportive community that truly rallied behind the Slammers. Everywhere you went, people wanted to talk hockey. Whether it was about the game that was just played or the one coming up next.

Maybe it’s because I grew up in a small town myself, but being in Woodstock gave me that genuine sense of home. From the organization, to the fans, to the people around town, I was surrounded by some of the nicest people I’ve had the chance to meet throughout my career.

I’ll always look back fondly on my time there and appreciate everything the community and organization gave me during those years
