FINAL | Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 6, Navy Vets 2

Pittsburgh opened the scoring on the power play 6:26 into the first and added another late in the period to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The Penguins extended their lead in the second before the Vets came out pushing in the third, finding the back of the net early to pull within two.

Pittsburgh responded with another power-play goal five minutes into the frame, and both teams would add goals late to make it a 6-2 final.

After opening the tournament with back-to-back wins, today provided another valuable test for our young group against a strong opponent.

Lots of positives to take from the weekend so far — and plenty of work still to be done.

The Vets finish preliminary play at 2-1 and will now await the results of today’s remaining games to determine when and who we’ll face Sunday.

TWO GAMES. TWO WINS.

The Navy Vets kept rolling at the Eli Palfreyman Memorial Tournament, picking up a 5-1 win over Ridley College this afternoon in Ayr.

Robert Landry opened the scoring 14 minutes into the first, jumping into the play and finishing on a breakaway to give the Vets a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.

The Vets added two more in the second as Will McGregor found the back of the net before Cohen Chamberlain converted from the point to make it 3-0 heading into the third.

Woodstock added two more in the final frame to extend the lead to 5-0 before the Tigers broke through late on the power play.

Ian Kubelka was excellent between the pipes in another stellar goaltending performance for the Vets.

Two wins down. One more preliminary-round test ahead.

Four Days of Hockey in Ayr 🏒

The Eli Palfreyman Memorial Tournament gets underway today at the North Dumfries Community Complex — and the Navy Vets are proud to be part of it. ⚓

This is a tremendous event put on for a reason much bigger than hockey, bringing teams together to honour the life and legacy of Eli Palfreyman while enjoying four days of great competition.

This year’s field includes:

🏒 Ayr Centennials — GOHL
🏒 Brantford Titans — GOHL
🏒 Strathroy Rockets — GOHL
🏒 Ridley College
🏒 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite

Four days of hockey, some great competition and, most importantly, the opportunity to be part of an event that honours Eli and his impact on the hockey community.

⚓ VETS PICK UP PRE-SEASON WIN IN KOMOKA ⚓

The Navy Vets made it two wins in two nights over the Komoka Kings, picking up a 7-3 victory tonight in Komoka!

🔥 QUICK START

The Vets came flying out of the gates, building a 3-0 lead in the opening 11:18.

🚨 Jack McGlenister opened the scoring
🚨 Cole Shoup found the back of the net in his Vets debut
🚨 Shoup's Dorchester teammate from last season, Ethan Bourgois, made it 3-0

Komoka answered, but Woodstock's own Aiden Silos restored the three-goal advantage to send the Vets into the first intermission up 4-1.

Just 1:02 into the second, Jordan Vanderlip ripped one home from the slot to make it 5-1. The Kings battled back with a pair of goals, cutting the Vets' lead to 5-3 after two.

🚀 JODOIN SHUTS THE DOOR

Komoka pushed in the third, but Joshua Jodoin had other plans.

Jodoin hammered home a pair of rockets — the first on the power play at 11:03 and another with just over five minutes remaining — to put the game away.

⚓ PRE-SEASON OPENS WITH A WIN IN ANCHORTOWN! ⚓

The Navy Vets kicked off the pre-season with a 5-1 win over the Komoka Kings last night at Reeves Community Complex.

🥅 Ian Kubelka got the start and was perfect, stopping all 15 shots he faced. Ethan Anderson took over and was solid as well, turning aside 12 of 13.

🚨 Colby Branton opened the scoring on the power play before Josh Natale made it 2-0, creating a breakaway with a great steal and finishing it off.

🚨 Jaxon Boone extended the lead to 3-0 in the second, firing home a wrist shot from the top of the circle while shorthanded. Komoka answered before the end of the period to make it 3-1.

🚨 In the third, Evan Giannone finished off a 2-on-1 on a great feed from Boone before Kyle Arthur rounded out the scoring when his pass deflected off a Komoka defender and into the net.
