Update #5
Manitoba Conservation and Climate and the RM of Piney continue to fight a wildland fire between the communities of Sandilands and Woodridge. In addition, crews are now battling fires north of Woodridge. It is unclear at this time whether these are new fires or the rekindling of the fire from last night. The situation is still very active and there is still a great deal of work to accomplish. The fire is not contained and would still be classified as active.
Weather conditions, wind, the presence of public and resources continue to present challenges. The RM remains in a State of Local Emergency. The focus of fire crews is life safety and the protection of property. At this time there are no evacuation orders in place and little risk to homes. Many roads within the area are closed, including PR210 and the Sandilands Main Market Road. Fire fighters will continue to monitor and action the wildland fire within the resources available and within the limits of safety. These are difficult times for all, many of our volunteers are working with minimal sleep and a great deal of concern for the wellbeing of our residents and communities.
The RM will update again around 6 pm.
