Congratulations to Darrell, who was in the host committee of the 2025 Nationals in Nova Scotia! 👏🏻👏🏻

September is Volunteer month in West Hants!

Each day, during the month of September we announce another 2026 Volunteer Award recipient. Today we celebrate a well known volunteer, and past Town of Windsor Provincial Volunteer Representative Award recipient (2001), Darrell Lyttle.

Darrell has been involved in organizing sporting events for well over 40 years. He has been heavily involved in the promotion of softball in the West Hants area, including bringing two National Championship tournaments to the St. Croix Ballfields as well as a number of Eastern Canadian Championships.

In the area of Broomball, Darrell has coached, been President of the local league, President of Broomball Nova Scotia and sat on the National Board for many years. Darrell is known across the country for promoting the sport, and keeping the passion for broomball strong.

In April, 2025, Darrell's dream to bring a Broomball National Championship to West Hants became a reality. After pulling in many local volunteers to support his ideas, we welcomed over 700 athletes with their families, the National Broomball Executive, and Officials. Athletes participated in over 100 broomball games at the GFL Newport Arena and the West Hants Sports Complex. Hotels and B&Bs were booked from the Annapolis Valley to Halifax. Local restaurants were booked for full team dinners. Local businesses were used for the B**r Garden, the awards, and the branded merchandise. The week finished with a closing banquet held at Avon View High School for 656 athletes and coaches.

Darrell has been passionate about sport opportunities for West Hants and has put endless hours into making sure we host big events with pride and professionalism. It is important to have strong leadership for all events, but a National Championship requires a clear vision and the skills to pull it all together.

Darrell has made a meaningful impact on our community for many years, but bringing the 1st National Championship to West Hants Regional Municipality after amalgamation will always be a special event.

Welcome Spain 🇪🇸!
Bienvenue à l’Espagne!

The IFBA has a new Associate Member.

In just the last few weeks representatives from the Basque region from Northern Spain have finalised their Associated membership with the IFBA.

We have been working for many months to bring this to fruition and are happy to announce that they have come on board.

As very new to the sport they are building their organisation and are hopeful to have competition happening in the very near future.

We shall continue to work with our newest member and encourage them to get actively involved with the sport as well as look to participate in World events as well as European events.

Being along side France's border their location easily allows for European participation. We look forward to seeing their attendance at events in the future.
