The arena is currently running programs such as: Learn to Skate, Free Public Skating, Hockey (both recreational for youths and adults), High School Hockey, Ringette and 7 Oaks Hockey Academy run by Ecole Seven Oaks Middle School Staff. West Kildonan Memorial Arena would like to ensure our Arena is a Safe/Healthy environment for everyone that enters through the doors. Currently the arena is in need
of some renovations or upgrades including, indoor flooring throughout the arena, upgrades to dressing rooms and restrooms, and upgrading to a newer more efficient zamboni. Currently the flooring is lifting, which is causing some concern about safety in the arena. Another concern is the matting that currently is placed on the arena stands. With piece of the rubber torn we are experiencing a tripping safety hazard. The rubber matting on the stands are currently being stapled down to avoid the hazard. How wonderful it would be to see properly installed matting. West Kildonan Memorial Arena must have the oldest dressing rooms and restrooms in the city. With four dressing rooms, one mens restroom, one ladies restroom and no family or wheelchair accessible restroom. It is time to renovate and upgrade to make this arena accessible to every individual. We would like to see this arena become a energy efficient arena with hands free faucets, soap dispensers, hand driers and toilets. West Kildonan Memorial Arena has been repairing their zamboni for the last several years, and as recently as September 28th, 2012. There just aren't the funds to purchase a new zamboini or convert to a electric machine; which would cut down on the air pollution within the arena. Being a smaller Community Centre has made it difficult to raise the funds needed for all the renovations and repairs. Money from the AVIVA COMMUNITY fund would help create a healthier, safer and energy efficient environment for everyone that use the Arena. West Kildonan Memorial Arena would love to see the revitilization dream come true.
