WHY DO WE DO WHAT WE DO? ❤️

Because Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people deserve opportunities to move, connect, participate, and thrive - and because our communities deserve to be celebrated, supported, and lifted up.

And there’s a reason this work matters.

In Canada, only 30% of First Nations, Inuit and Métis girls aged 13–18 participate in sport at least weekly.

Across Canada, girls also face a significant drop-off in sport participation as they get older. These gaps aren’t about a lack of passion or potential. Barriers such as cost, access, geography, discrimination, representation, and a lack of inclusive environments can make it harder for people to participate and stay involved in sport and recreation.

We believe everyone deserves a place to move, connect, and belong.

That’s why we do what we do.

The Indigenous Women & Girls Run is for everyone. Over the years, we’ve welcomed participants of all genders, ages, backgrounds, races, and abilities. We’ve had families bring their children, participants using mobility aids, people who run, walk, and roll, and community members who simply come to be part of something bigger than themselves.

We’ve had Residential School survivors, Sixties Scoop survivors, youth, Elders, families, friends, allies, athletes, and people who may not consider themselves runners at all. You don’t have to fit a certain mold to participate.

Bring your kids. Come with your mobility aid. Run, walk, or roll. Take your time. Come as you are. There is a place for you here.

Every step, every registration, and every dollar raised helps support programming and opportunities for Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people through sport, recreation, wellness, culture, and community.

Because this is about more than a Run.

It’s about building our community up. Creating space for connection. Celebrating who we are. Honouring where we’ve come from. Breaking down barriers. And creating opportunities for the next generation to thrive. Everyone is welcome. ❤️
