🚨Attention Officials🚨

This week's Hockey Canada Rule of the Week covers a new goaltender safety procedure for U13 and below.

When a goaltender is struck in the head by the puck, officials must stop play as soon as it is safe to do so, allowing a brief moment to see whether the puck enters the goal directly. The video explains when a goal can still be allowed, when play must be stopped immediately, and why patience with the whistle matters when applying the new rule.

‼️Attention ALL coaches and team officials!‼️

On April 1, 2026, the Provincial Government of Manitoba passed the Protecting Youth in Sport Act, a new piece of legislation governing the handling of all safe sport matters across the sporting environment in Manitoba.

Included within this act is the requirement for all Provincial Sport Organizations to enact a screening policy that implements a minimum standard for Coach and Team Officials screening.

In conjunction with both Sport Manitoba and Hockey Canada, Hockey Manitoba has approved a new Coach and Team Officials Screening Policy that comes into effect today, September 1, 2026.

This past Friday, Hockey Manitoba brought together over 30 contributors representing a wide cross-section of Manitoba’s hockey and sport community for a full-day Mission, Vision and Values workshop.

Board members, staff members, volunteers, member associations, leagues, community organizations and sport partners worked collectively and shared their perspectives on Hockey Manitoba’s purpose, future direction and how we should work together.

The day was designed to listen, identify what matters most and build a shared foundation—not to arrive with predetermined answers. We are grateful to everyone who gave their time, contributed openly and helped make the discussion thoughtful and productive.

The input gathered is now being carefully reviewed and synthesized as the next stage of this important work continues.

Thank you to Len Samletzki for facilitating the session and to every participant who helped shape the conversation.
