This one is pretty special. 🥹

Ella Stewner was one of my very first clients when I started running JK Hockey. I had the privilege of working with her from a young age and watching her journey take her from U13, to the U15 Predators, Balmoral Hall Prep, Team Manitoba U18, and the University of Alberta.

And now, a whole new chapter. 🦷🤍

Yesterday, Ella received her white coat as she begins her four year journey through dental school.

As proud as I am of everything Ella accomplished in hockey, I’m even more proud of the person she has become. She has always been a leader — driven, hardworking, positive, and the type of person who walks into a room with a smile on her face.

One of the coolest parts of coaching is getting to watch young athletes grow up and seeing where life takes them beyond the rink. To have known Ella since she was a young hockey player and now watch her take this next step is incredibly special.

Congratulations, Ella! So proud of you and everything you continue to accomplish.

From the rink to the white coat — keep chasing big things!

Practice adding more to your game. Next practice, work on adding more to the drill. Instead of just skating straight down on the goalie and taking a shot, add in a stutter step, hip swivel, deception, off looking the pass, etc. The more you practice these little moves, the more natural it will come in a game and the more dynamic of a player you will become.

And that’s a wrap on Summer 2026! Finished the summer with a 1 week half day pre season camp, shown here in the pics. The camp was a blast and absolutely flew by. To all the players and coaches, thank you for making this one memorable. Good luck to all of you this upcoming season. See you at the rinks!

Working on picking up rims off the wall on the forehand and backhand. U11 girls are making it look easy!
At the youth age, coaches should break down certain aspects of the game and work on the fine skills that players will use in the game. In hockey, there is a ton of board play. This is one skill that can be worked on in season!

Face-offs, what are you doing off the draw? Things to think of..

Centres - what hand is the opponent you’re facing off with? Where are you winning it to? Are you tying up instead of winning the draw and having support come through for loose pucks? Communication with your teammates will help with puck possession or retrieval!

Wingers - jumping on pucks quickly, finding shooting lanes through traffic once you get the puck, if the draw is lost what’s your role?

- Closing the gap early
- Inside shoulder protects the middle of the ice

My why.
Whether you work with me in the spring, summer, or fall/winter, every time I step on the ice my goal is the same: to help you become the best version of yourself—both as a player and as a person.

And even if we’ve never shared the ice together, I hope you can still learn something from the content I post. If one drill, one mindset shift, or one piece of advice helps you improve or gives you confidence, then it’s worth it.

Helping athletes grow is why I do what I do. I am beyond passionate in helping every single player love the game even more by providing more confidence and fun to their game!
