We're almost there!!
The dream of building a motocross track in the RM of Rockwood is still well and alive the project has been moving very slowly but we're now at a critical point. The only way our track project can move forward is if the RM of Rockwood approves our conditional use application. So far the council has not been overly supportive of the project help us change their minds!
Our group has been slowly but continuously working towards the goal of building a track. Covid definitely slowed us down but it didn't stop us!
Brief Update
New Name
We have incorporated a not for profit under the name Quarry Ridge motosport Inc. this is the organization that will operate the track.
The Land
The land we are seeking approval on is a 53.5 acre parcel of land located on the NW corner of Highway 7 and Road 78N. The land is zoned agricultural but not used for anything due to its proximity to quarries. The property is mostly treed but it has a good amount of topsoil and a number of changes in elevation that will provide a good landscape on which to build a track. The owner of the property Gilles Quarries Ltd. is very supportive of the project.
The Plan
Our plan is to clear approximately 27 acres of the site to build a track and a pits/parking area leaving the rest with mature trees to help mitigate sound. Access to the site would be via the SW corner of the parcel, off Rd 78N using the existing access to a quarry operated by Maple leaf construction. (It's the 1st turn on the right side, once you turn on to highway 78N from the from Hwy 7).
Neigbouring uses of the land
The area around the site is mostly quarries, forest, farmland and a few residents, mostly across the highway or half a mile or more away.

Why has the RM not been supportive?
We believe the RM has not been supportive mainly because the Reeve and counsel don't understand motorsports and due to a couple of vocal residents who are opposed to more noise in an already noisy area. We recently went door-to-door talking to residents that lived within a mile of the site and found that the biggest opposition to the track was in fact noise but it was mostly based on misinformation. Despite several newspaper articles describing how the facility would be used (once or twice a week), most people were under the impression that the track would be open for riders day-and-night, 7 days a week, resulting in a summer of nonstop motorbike noise. Once we explained the limited use of the facility, opposition seemed to go down. But we can't bank on that!
What we need you to do
Help us convince the Reeve and Council that they should approve this application!
Attend to hearing
The more supporters we have an attendance the better!
If you're a resident of Rockwood
Call the Reeve, call a counselor or call them all, let them know that you want this track in our community!
Thanks for your continued support!
