HELLO AND WELCOME to the official launch of David Byrne Golf

At David Byrne Golf you will find, tips, lesson updates, some humour (often), golf gear chat and likely my family.

Most people will say they have a passion for golf.
I do not.
I have an obsession. A love, and an incredible amount of gratitude for the game of golf. Through golf and the people involved with it, I have been able to have so many life experiences that will help me, help you!

I started playing golf at Sutton Creek in the junior program at 10 years old , along with the Roseland Shortie. I really focused on golf when I was about 16 and after some small success, I was fortunate enough to get a golf Scholarship to Detroit Mercy.
I left Detroit Mercy holding the 18 & 36 hole scoring records, Freshman of the Year (2006) and Player of the year (2010) along with being Academic-All American my final 2 years at Detroit. Fortunately I was voted in to the Detroit Mercy Hall of Fame last year.

After school I was selected to compete on Golf Channel’s reality show called Big Break Indian Wells. After WINNING BIG BREAK, I turned pro, and played on Canadian Tour/PGA TOUR CANADA (now pga Americas) for about 4-5 years and even got to see my dream become a reality and play in the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans. After playing mini tours for a few years, I went west to Los Angeles and caddied at Bel Air Country Club (yes that one) for a few years and made my way back home, to Canada.

I am still obsessed with the game, if you know me personally, I think that may be downplaying it a touch. I have found a new passion in the game of golf, and that is being a golf coach! Throughout my years travelling North America and playing a high level of golf for the past 25 years (yes I’m that old) and being certified golf professional with a desire for continuing to learn more about the greatest game ever played. I am confident I can help your game.

I’m looking for 3-5 junior golfers between 12 and 16 who are looking to get a little more serious with golf.

If you know someone, or one of your children are interested, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Give a young golfer a chance to work with the last person from Windsor to hold status on a professional golf tour, the only to win Big Break, UDM hall of
Fame inductee and someone who just loves golf.

It just takes that one shot to fall in love with this great game. Looking forward to hearing from You!

I have been working with my man for about a year now. I really enjoy spending time with him and talking about golf and how to make him better.
We took a 15 minute peak at his stroke. He struggles with rolling the ball end over end and really struggles outside with his speed.

Russ had some acceleration issues and was a smidge (technical term) away from the ball resulting in a path and face with a little too much rotation, resulting in pull draw putts.

We got him that smidge closer to the ball and the wrist joints a little higher at address. The biggest thing we did was we started to try and hit the putt in the backswing. This allowed him to decelerate properly to control the putter head a little better. The putts started to POUR IN with PROPER Speed

Remember, it’s not a race to get back to the ball. We want a fluid motion, not one that changed direction so quickly.

Steep is so good. Shallow is so good. Do both IMO if you want to be successful with a wedge inside of 50.
I would thoughts from some people with knowledgeable insight. Or even some fun comments.

Lots of solid shots off the tee. Ball Speed getting to 164
Mediocre iron shots and not so good with the wedge and around the green (usually what is a stronger part)

I was (+1) 73.
