While you are condering what Fall activities you are going to do this year to keep active -- maybe consider Scottish Country Dancing. We have 2 classes per week.

The Saturday afternoon class is at Christ the King Elementary School from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The Fall session will run from October 10th - November 21st. This class is family friendly. The full session fee is $60 or you can pay a $10 drop in fee. There is not a fee for children 12 and under who come with adults. This class is ideal for beginners, people who prefer an afternoon class or are fully booked on weekend evenings.

The Wednesday evening class is at Whistle Bend School (small gym) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The Fall Session will run from October 7th - November 25th. The fees are same as the Saturday class. This class is an intermediate class, but if you have been doing other forms of group dancing such as Barn Dancing, please inquire.

Fall Dance Classes in Whitehorse

Family Friendly. Children must be with adults or teens.
Fees: $60 for whole session or $10 drop in fee for adults. No fee for children coming with adults.

** This is a great class for beginners and those who can't do weeknight activities.

2. WEDNESDAY EVENING classes at Whistle Bend school, small gym, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Classes start on October 7th -- November 25th (7 classes, no class on November 11th).

Fees: $60 for whole session or $10 drop in fee for adults.

** These classes are suitable for adults and teens. Previous dance experience (any country dance, barn dance, or line dance) is recommended but not required.

TO REGISTER: Prior to the first week of October, email [email protected]. Your name, phone number, and email address are required so we can do up class lists. Payment is not due until the first dance class.

The Fall Ceilidh will be on Saturday, October 3rd at Christ the King Elementary School 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

--> The Ceilidh is Family Friendly. No experience rquired. All dances are walked and called.
--> $10 per adult. No charge for children (who are with their adults).
--> Indoor shoes and water are all you need to bring.

This is a good change to try some Ceilidh danincg and a wee bit of Scottish Country Danceing. See the post on the Regular Class information.

Who is up for Scottish Country Dancing this Fall?

We'll start the season off with a Fall Ceilidh on Saturday afternoon, October 3rd. The regular Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon classes will start the next week. Time to kick up our heels!

The City of Whitehorse Recreation Programs is offering some Family programs this summer. One of them is a Scottish Country dance session where we will do some Ceilidh dancing. It will be on July 23rd --> 2:30-4:00 p.m. at the Canada Games Centre Wellness Studio.

This includes a parent or parents or other adult and up to 2 children (7+) per adult.

Indoor shoes and a water bottle are required.

Pipe Band Concerts in Whitehorse July 13-17th!

Yukoners, check the schedule attached for concerts by the Cochrane Pipe Band (from Alberta). They will be playing at various locations around Whitehorse July 13th -16th. Then they will be in Carcross on the 17th.

There is nothing like the sounds of the pipe band to "feel" the experience.

🚨 Timber! Make way on the dance floor... because the lumberjacks have arrived! 🪓 🌲

Lumberjacks and loggers, it's your day to dance! Few figures loom larger in North American folklore than Paul Bunyan, the mythical giant lumberjack whose impossible feats became legendary around logging camp cookstoves. According to the tall tales, Paul carved out river valleys with his footsteps, created the Great Lakes when Babe's giant hoofprints filled with water, and felled entire forests with a few mighty swings of his axe. By his side was his faithful companion, Babe the Big Blue Ox, a creature so enormous that ordinary barns were far too small to house her.

Like many great folk heroes, Paul Bunyan grew from the oral traditions of working loggers, who delighted in trying to outdo one another with ever more extravagant stories after long days in the woods. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these campfire tales spread across the United States and Canada before finding their way into books, advertisements, songs, plays, and films. Early illustrations of Paul also helped popularize the red-and-black tartan flannel work shirt, based on the Rob Roy tartan, which Americans came to know simply as the Buffalo Plaid or Buffalo Check—a pattern that remains an enduring symbol of the logging tradition.

This cheerful 32-bar jig for four couples captures that same larger-than-life spirit. The choreography features lively arches and even a cheerful high five—though if your partner happens to be a giant blue ox, you may find yourself stretching just a little higher than usual! ❤️ 🖤 💙 🐂 🪓 🌲 🌲 🌲

🌲 CAMMAC SCD Retreat – June 12–14

The highlight of June for many Scottish dancers in Ottawa and beyond is, of course, CAMMAC.
For three unforgettable days, we'll gather in a beautiful lakeside setting to enjoy nature, live music, dancing, and the company of fellow enthusiasts. Although tickets sold out long ago, we'll be sharing photos and updates from the weekend, so stay tuned — and perhaps reserve a June weekend for CAMMAC next year! 😉

💃 Ottawa Branch Summer Dancing
Can't imagine a summer without Scottish dancing? Neither can we!
Join us every Tuesday evening from 7:00–9:00 PM at the air-conditioned Churchill Seniors Centre (345 Richmond Road). Dancers of all levels are welcome, so bring your dancing shoes and come spend an evening with friends, music, and some favourite dances.

If you're new to Ottawa summer dancing, please note that these evenings are social dances rather than instructional classes. All dances will be briefed and walked through at least once, but you will enjoy the evenings most if you already have some Scottish country dancing experience.

⭐ A special evening hosted by Ardbrae and led by Guy Quesnel is planned for June 9 — don't miss it!
