GRAD SPOTLIGHT - COLE C.
How many years have you been dancing?
9 or 10 years, but the fact I’ve lost count means something good.
What is your favourite style?
I always say Hip Hop, but I think Production actually.
What are you planning next?
I’m not 100% sure but I’m taking a gap year. I plan to visit the studio a lot!
What was your dream job at 5 years old?
A chef or baker.
What is your dream job today?
I’m still on board with culinary, but I’ve been dreaming of becoming a choreographer.
What is your one pre-competition or pre-recital ritual?
Obsessively checking costumes for tags sticking out, shoes not double knotted, the whole shebang.
What is the one odd item you always have in your dance bag?
A collection of air fresheners in my bag. The dancer’s lounge needs it sometimes!
What is the most chaotic/funny thing that happened to you?
During competition, walking on I realized I was still wearing a COVID mask. Thankfully I noticed before we began, given it was MUSICAL THEATRE!
What is your all-time favourite dance?
I miss Clue a lot. I love a dance with a unique concept, and with a Production based around a murder mystery with a different culprit every show was, while ambitious, turned out incredibly well.
What is your favourite memory from dance?
I’ve been stuck on this question and I can’t think of just one answer. There’s countless memories I’ve made and it feels wrong singling out one.
What has dance taught you?
Dance has taught me a lot, but over the years it’s become clear that it brings people together.
If you could give your first-year self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Never be discouraged. It’s ok to feel down or awkward about something, especially on the stage, but it’s important that you never feel like you’re in the wrong place.
What advice would you give to dancers that are still on their journey?
Everyone in the audience as well as backstage are rooting for you. Keep fighting through anything that makes you think otherwise. Keep performing!
