Sleepy Hollow Country Club

A private golf club, featuring a beautiful parkland golf course, only 5mins from Stouffville. Two fellows stood at the back of what is our 9th. fairway.

green on a summer's day in 1958 overlooking the meadow which we now know as the 18th. One turned to the other and commented” that is a nice sleepy little hollow.” Their golf club had a name. Those two gentlemen, James Johnstone Sr. and Bert Turcotte were already in the midst of distinguished careers in golf. Ultimately sharing in honors with induction to either the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame,winnin

g Canadian Professional Golf Championships or successful developers of other golf courses in this part of the world. From those days, the club has continued to prosper and evolve into a respected private golf club catering to the needs of a diverse and active membership, while providing space for community and private events. Today the course still rests peacefully in a park like setting, mature trees, rolling fairways and small undulating greens. Seven holes remain virtually untouched from the original design. The others lengthened and improved with an eye to protecting the beauty and original character.

“On a beautiful night that was filled with matches on the holes all around us the air was quiet, except for the laughter from Reggie and the Deputy close by. Smitty’s dart showed me the wind was in our face, an 8 iron was the club for me. After hitting not the purest shot some might say, but the the results would say different, it rolled down the slope across the front and in it went. It was hard to see and we were not 100% sure it was in, except for Dougall…he was sure. When we got to the green, we met the match from hole four and Hick thought the ball in the hole might be his…lol. Closer look…it was in!

Pitching wedge from 131 yards, wind off of the right and helping. Hit a slight draw and it was all over the flag, landed one foot from the pin and one hopped into the hole for my third career hole in one!
