PTSD - Support Through Sport
The purpose of the Hawkes Program is to create an environment where those with PTSD can meet up in a sport environment and interact in a peer to peer based setting. Exposure to traumatic/catastrophic injuries and rescue scenarios is high in the Sea to Sky Corridor however programs or support available for those diagnosed with PTSD are limited.
The Hawkes Program will host monthly sport sessions in an environment that would be low on PTSD triggers. Activities such as Nordic skiing, snow-shoeing, yoga, hiking, biking, canoeing, and kayaking will be scheduled based on the appropriate seasons. The sessions will be led by experienced coaches and volunteers trained to work with this population.
We believe the Hawkes Program will not only benefit participants taking part in the programming but will also benefit the families that have also endured the stress of living with a family member with PTSD.
