Hello Folks,
One of my fondest memories growing up in PEI was playing fall soccer. The temperatures are a bit cooler, but there is nothing quite like squeezing that last bit of warmth out of the sun just before the ground freezes, and the snow gently nudges us indoors to some of our other favourite winter activities. Kids are back at school and reacquainting themselves with friends that they have lost touch with over the summer, as well as recounting the glories and miseries from their summer sport campaigns with their fellow teammates. It is a great time of year!
This fall I have decided to rekindle that long lost feeling, and hopefully recreate that fun experience for my kids as well as kids across Pictou County and beyond. Beginning in September I will be offering a fall soccer program for boys born between 2004 and 2009 (U8 – U12). The goal of this program is to get kids outside and have fun while playing the beautiful game.
How Long Is the Program?
The program will run for 8 weeks from September 11th – October 30th. Players will need to register prior to September 6th. Matches will begin at 4pm in order to allow more kids to participate, and avoid scheduling conflicts with hockey, basketball, and other winter sports that will begin this time of year. The goal is to compliment other sports, and not draw athletes away from them.
What Is the Cost?
The registration fee is just $60, which includes a team t-shirt. Payment can be made in cash, e-transfers, or Kidsport. Receipts will be provided.
Why 3v3?
The short answer is that best way for players to develop is by playing Small Sided Games (SSG’s). Every major club uses this format to train their players, and it has proven to be extremely effective all over the world. To learn more about this format please reference our brochure (see attached – “Program Highlights”).
Who Can Play?
This program is open to everyone, regardless of skill level, or whether you even play soccer at all. For soccer players it is a great way to maintain their touch on the ball, and continue to hone their skills. For hockey players it is a great opportunity to build your cardio while practicing quick movements, passing, defending, etc. For baseball players it allows them the opportunity to play another sport, and exercise some muscles that may not have utilized as much in the summer. You don’t have to be a top tier provincial soccer player to participate – anyone can play, have fun, and improve their fitness.
What Equipment Do I Need?
In order to play you will need a pair of cleats, shin guards, and shorts – that’s all. A PCFA team t-shirt will be provided once you have been assigned to a squad which will be yours to keep.
How Will Teams Be Formed?
Teams will be evenly split based on experience & skill level so that we have balanced competition.
Will This Be Outside or Indoors?
All games will be outdoors at the Stellarton Soccer Complex to take advantage of the great fall weather. Players will be notified via email if there is a cancellation due to extreme weather.
