As we wrap up our 2025–26 season, everyone at the Westport Lumberjacks wants to send a huge THANK YOU to the entire Westport community.

From our fans who packed the rink and supported us all year, to our staff and volunteers who put in countless hours behind the scenes, and especially to our incredible sponsors. This season wouldn’t have been possible without you.

Year two marked a big step forward for our organization. After laying the groundwork in our inaugural season, we took real strides this year, improving on the ice and continuing to build a culture we’re proud of. That progress is a direct reflection of the support we receive from this community.

Our sponsors play a massive role in everything we do — from helping our players, to keeping the team running, to giving us the opportunity to compete and grow in this league. Your support truly makes a difference, and we’re proud to represent you every time we step on the ice.

This season was another important step in building something special here in Westport and we’re just getting started. We’re excited to keep pushing forward, building off this momentum, and bringing even more to our fans next year.

The Westport Lumberjacks are proud to announce that we’ve loaned several of our players to teams competing in the NPHL Outlaw Championship Tournament in Smiths Falls from April 24 to May 2, 2026.

• Goaltender Joel Horodziejczyk will suit up for the Smiths Falls Rideaus
• Defencemen Warren Marcotte and Noah Westwater will join the Metropolitan Champion Alvinston Killer Bees
• Captain Devon Burns and forward Duaine Wainman will compete with the Durham Hawks

We’re excited to see our players represent on the big stage and wish them the best of luck throughout the tournament!

LUMBERJACKS FAMILY: WE NEED YOUR HELP 🪓🧡

Today, we are reaching out with heavy hearts to support one of our own. John Rankin, the Lumberjacks’ biggest fan and supporter since day one, is going through an unimaginable time right now.

Early Easter morning, John’s wife Melissa suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. Melissa is a talented master carpenter and a devoted mother of four. She is currently in critical condition following surgery, and the road ahead is going to be long and difficult for their whole family.

With Melissa in the hospital and John needing to be by her side and with their children, the family has lost their source of income. As a community, it’s our turn to have their backs the way John has always had ours.

Lumberjack of the Year - Mitchell Larabie

This award is voted by the players, showing who they enjoy playing with, seeing at the rink, giving it their all on the ice and an all-around presence on the team. Mitch is all that, and then some. With 27 points on the year (11G, 16A), he was second in team scoring; but he was also a face-off specialist, a leader, a workhorse, always positive, and he never gave up. It's easy to see why the boys chose him as the Jack of the Year.

Well done Mitchy!

Coach's Award - Duane Wainman

Westport knew what Duane had to offer from facing him last year a total of 7 times: he's an offensive threat, defensively sound, and plays the game the right way. His 7 goals and 11 assists on the year totalled 18 points, but Duane's positivity and enjoyment of the game make him a stand-out addition to the squad. He communicates well in the room and on the bench, gives everything he's got no matter the situation, and is relied on when the game matters most. He might have even started a new slogan this year. "All we need is one!" Awesome job Wainer!

Top Forward - Cole Edwards

Newcomer Cole Edwards joined the team in the offseason looking to make an immediate impact, and he certainly did that. Cole played the most games of any Jacks player this year (19), was always first to the rink no matter when and where, earning 11 goals and 15 assists, for 26 points on the season. 3 of his goals were game winners this year. Looking forward to continued success with Eddy!

Top Goalie - Joel Horodziejczyk

Joel was rostered for 18 games this year, with the other two games sidelined due to injury, but he still showed up to support the team. He's a class guy, always smiling, battles hard, and is a team favorite in the room. Boasting a .889 SV% while facing 42 shots a game on average is a huge confidence boost to the team.

Top Defenseman - Warren Marcotte

Warren was acquired in the Gananoque draft, and was a first round pick for Westport. It was easy to identify his ability out of the gate, providing an offensive touch and puck confidence at both ends of the ice. Warren logged 17 points (6G, 11A) in 11 games, averaging 1.5 points per game. Keep rolling Marco!

Top Scorer - Devon Burns

For the second year in a row, Captain Devon Burns is the Jacks' leading producer, with 20 goals and 16 helpers totalling 36 points in 18 games which finished 9th in points and 7th in goals for the league. Devon also surpassed 100 games in the NPHL, a very note-worthy milestone of commitment and sacrifice to the Lumberjacks, previous organizations, and the league. Way to go Devon!
