MultiSport Canada has always taken responsibility for our actions and then done everything possible to solve any issue caused by those actions. This is one of those times.

Yesterday at Barrelman the crew that was responsible for transporting the Olympic Distance athlete run bags to T2 in Niagara Falls made a mistake. This resulted in a delay in delivering some bags and two instances where bags were placed in the wrong spots under the bike racks. Our team at T2 reacted as soon as they were made aware of the situation, went to the transition area and spoke to each affected athlete. I can attest to this as I personally spoke to several of those athletes.

Jason Vurma personally took charge of the situation and did his utmost to expedite the process. This included speaking with athletes to gather information, which would help locate several specific bags. At the time we also explained that any time an athlete spent waiting would be captured in the timing system and race times would be adjusted accordingly. The athletes we spoke with felt that was a fair solution.

On a personal level both Jason and I would both be very upset if this were to happen to us while racing. We can only hope that people will have the perspective this was a result of a human error. We recognize this had a huge impact on those affected and we feel it is only right to refund their 2026 entry and to offer a free entry into the 2027 Olympic race. We hope that each athlete will come back in 2027 to have the race that they deserve. This is our way of taking responsibility for our actions and we will continue to do so.

Within the next day we are going to be sending an email to all the athletes who were affected.

John Salt and Jason Vurma

Dear Barrelman Participants,

Please attend the Pre-Race Briefing at 12PM today as there is an important update for the Bike Course, relating to on course hydration and bottle drop.

The only exception would be if you are not relying on bottle drop for hydration however, we still recommend you attend briefing today.

We look forward to seeing you this afternoon at the WIFC.
