As a 51 year old personal trainer, I hear it all the time from my clients,

"I've tried to lose the extra weight around my belly and it's not working. What am I doing wrong, l've tried everything".

Women over 40 find it much harder to lose those extra 20lbs compared to when they were 20 or 30.

Doing the viral trend. Asked AI to created "a caricature of me based on everything you know about me".

I'm a personal trainer specializing in training women

The first image, they got my body proportions pretty accurate. I carry more weight in my lower body and glutes 🤣

I told her to get rid of the tiny pink dumbbells. We dont use 5 lb pink dumbbells when I train women.

I love the last image of me getting hot flashes and night sweats. Peri-menopause symptoms. That's me for the last 9 years.

Thankful I dont get night sweats or hot flashes any more in perimenopause, not that I'm on HRT

Lot of laughs with my sister, creating imagines of me with AI. So fun to see what they come up with 🤣

⭐️Dexa scan revealed my body composition🌟

A couple days after arriving from a 2 week vacation in Austria I scheduled a Dexa scan before I left😚

At the age of 51, my first time getting a Dexa scan. This is the most accurate measure which showed my body composition. A small amount of radiation is emitted.

I was interested in finding out my lean mass (muscle), body fat, visceral fat and bone mass for my age.

Since I started weight training later in life, at the age of 42, I was concerned my bone density wouldn't be adequate for my age.

🎉 I'm very happy with my results of the Dexa scan 🔥

The scan showed: (right photo)
At 134 lbs, height 5'7", age 51

👉 excellent bone mineral density.
👉 23% body fat
👉 very low visceral fat🥳
which is the unhealthy fat around your organs you can't see.

So overall even though I gained 7lbs in 2 weeks. I enjoyed and indulged in eating foods I regularly don't eat, while on vacation in Austria.

As long as I prioritize getting back to eating more protein and veggies again, which I've already started, no need to worry about extra pounds gained. I'm already back on track away.

And since my body fat percentage was already in a HEALTHY range, I could indulge a little.

I'd recommend getting a Dexa scan done, as a starting point to see your overall body composition and use the information as motivation for a healthier YOU.💪

Over the Christmas holidays, it's fine to indulge, as long as you get back on track right after the holidays!! 😊🎄🎅

✴️For me, there's no end destination for progress and growth🔥👇

My transformation photos this year, the scale shows a difference of 17 lbs weight loss.

BUT numbers aren't the only thing that's changed for me in 2025:

⭐️ My personal growth
👉 Stronger both physically and mentally.

Progress, growth and constant learning in all aspects of my life will never stop for me!

As a women's coach, I have goals for myself because that's what growth looks like.

And I don't chase perfection. I help other women do the same...

✴️ Setting goals
✴️ Building & maintaining habits
✴️ Healthy lifestyle changes
✴️ Getting stronger
✴️ Accountability and mentality

All to keep you moving forward, no matter where you're starting from. Sustainable results from an individual structured plan (with input from you) to help you move forward in the right direction.

Let's end 2025 with a good start before the New Year, because NOW is a good time to prioritize yourself!

🔥Age is just a number. I've never felt better🥳

At the age of 51, I'm more confident and the healthiest I've ever been!

On the left, 14 years ago
Approx 180 lbs
my body fat was the highest it's ever been
Very weak, low muscle tone, high visceral fat,
I didn't exercise,
I'd get really out of breath walking a short distance,
And my diet consisted of processed foods, mainly carbs, and a lot of sugar! 🤯

Poor mental health,
while caring for 3 kids,
I didn't prioritize myself or my health.
My main focus was taking care of my family,
and raising my kids the best I could.

That was my mistake,
I could have prioritized my kids, my husband AND myself 🥰

A couple of years after this photo, I finally pushed FULL steam ahead, prioritizing all aspects of my health.

Now 50 lbs down I prioritize:
⭐️ Weight training 4-5 times a week,
⭐Eat whole foods including more protein, veggies, a lot less sugar
⭐️My mental health, setting boundaries, saying NO.
⭐️I'm happier, less anxious
⭐I move my body daily doing what I enjoy, whether it's weight training, walking, indoor cycling or dancing.

I can't wait to see what the next few decades will bring, enjoying a healthy lifestyle while watching my kids grow up.

Small steps, start today!

Adjust your routine if you need to, but don't abandon it!

⛱️ Prioritize your health without guilt.
Prioritizing your health gets you stronger and more energized. And it also helps you get through the extra demands of family life over a busy summer season.

⛱️ Stay active when you’re away, even on vacation. Planning intentional movement goes a long way.

Choosing bodyweight exercises, high-intensity 20 minute interval workouts, using resistance bands at the cottage, a morning walk or swim while you’re away, even before the day starts can help you stay on track.🚴

⛱️ Healthy and nutritious meals while staying on track. Find easy ways to incorporate low-calorie healthy options into your meals.

Whether it’s grilling chicken and seasonal veggies on the BBQ, or enjoying fruits in your protein shakes or frozen yogurt, there are plenty of ways to feel good about your choices this summer🍓🥤

🤔 How to get rid of "bat wings"🪽

I get asked this question often...
How do I get rid of fat under my arms?

AKA bat wings....

It's a combination of working on your triceps,

👉 focusing on consistently weight training the tricep muscles over a long period of time

AND

👉 losing body fat, focusing on nutrition.

To actually see the work you put in over time training the triceps, you won't see definition unless you lose fat around the muscles in your arms.

But, working only on triceps kickbacks, dips or triceps pushdowns, will not give you that "toned" look alone

And you CAN'T spot reduce fat under your arms or "bat wings"😀

Spot reducing fat, by that I mean, you can't get rid of fat in one specific area of your body. Don't we all wish!

Now for some, excessive loose skin after a considerable amount of fat loss may also need to be surgically removed for some.

However, start by focusing on exercises training your arms about 2x a week and by losing excessive body fat to see the definition in your arms, which will start to diminish the look of flabby "bat wings"💪

💪Muscle building at age 50 in menopause🌟

After a fat loss phase with the help of my coach, I focused on muscle building over the past year, which means seeing numbers on the scale increase.

Focused on building glutes, gaining strength, building confidence during stress time of transitioning to menopause. I worked hard in the gym on average 4 to 5 workouts a week while enjoying some balance with my meals, including chocolate🍫

💪I gained 12 lbs over the past year. Still planning on
building muscle and strength, but will be focused on a cut phase soon, just in time for the summer.

I'm a personal trainer myself, mainly helping middle-aged women. Even personal trainers need someone to rely on when motivation is low or life's not great, or when menopausal symptoms are kicking my butt.

I'm very thankful for my coach helping me, and pushing me this past year. Looking forward to seeing where the next 12 months will take me 🙏
