The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year — the moment when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky and daylight stretches to its peak before slowly beginning to wane.
Celebrated across cultures for thousands of years, it's a time of abundance, vitality, and the full flowering of life. Ancient peoples lit bonfires to honour the sun's power and ward off darkness, gathered to mark the turning of the wheel, and revelled in the fertile energy of midsummer.
It carries the paradox of being both a peak and a pivot point — the sun is at its most powerful, yet from this day forward, the light begins its gradual retreat.
For many traditions, it's a time to celebrate what has grown, express gratitude for abundance, and soak in the warmth before the year begins its quiet turn toward darker days.
Celebrate the parts that feel right for you and simply leave the rest!
