I am an intermediate surfer, maybe even low-intermediate, and it's wonderful βΊοΈ
I don't live on a surf break year-round, but with my family, we make an annual pilgrimage and stay for a short season.Β
Long enough to feel some progression and too short to become true experts, but it doesn't matter.Β
Feeling that progression each time I paddle out is wonderful. Learning how to read waves, learning the technique, learning the social etiquette... So much...
It's great to feel a bit out of my element, but starting to get it. It's great to feel awkward and be met with smiles. It's great to watch the expertise and learn lessons from those who have dedicated their lives to surf, like I've dedicated mine to snow.
All these feelings and experiences are good to have as snowboard teachers. They can remind us of what it's like to be a weekend warrior or a holiday rider.
When you get assigned their lesson, for you it's a normal Monday, for them it's something they've been waiting for all week or all year.
What sport or lifestyle are you learning this summer? Are you staying in your comfort zone or are you reminding yourself of what it's like to be a beginner, novice, or intermediate?Β
Follow your curiosity, try new things, and let it make you a better snowboard teacher π€Β Β Β
