A BIG PART of our philosophy at BTFC is creating realistic/representative, kid-centric, & FUN environments! We give them the game & the freedom to play in small-sided & soccer-in-disguise game formats! Let them play & bond to the game!

Researcher Jean Cote calls this deliberate play, which he defines as:

“activities such as backyard soccer or street basketball that are regulated by age-adapted rules and are set up and monitored by the children or adults engaged in the activity. At Burnside Tigers FC, we recognise that physical and technical movements of the game must be coupled with realistic & representative game elements; opposition, bi-directionality, and consequence (4 moments of the game). This is a significant part of what we do on the field to build competencies, the perception & action coupling, and consolidating player attunement.
