Women's finals park run.
I battled hard for this line. Between my angry joints; etiquette-less scooter kids; starry eyed groms ("HEY CARLA, WATCH ME!"); COVID related, feeling-eating weight gain; and a record breaking hot summer; this one was a struggle. I wanted a skkrrrrrrty tailslide over a hip and a fakie big spin axel stall, but this is all I could manage and that's ok.

Here's BOLD and grom team skater Gabi sporting a stained tongue from the elusive "blue raspberry" flavoured freezie. The fact that Gabi is a sponsored skater at 9 and the significance of the skate decks behind her featuring names like and (to name a few) is not lost on me on this
I got my first skateboard at 9; I remember putting one foot on the board and falling directly onto my bum. I remember how incredibly difficult it was simply learning how to push. I also remember watching my brother (who is less than a year older than me) learn quite quickly with confidence and bravery. I worked so damn hard at skating--nothing came easily and it's the same today.
When I got a bit older and started getting into doing tricks, all my skater friends were boys and they all dreamed of going pro. Going pro never even occurred to me. Thanks to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, I was aware of but she seemed to be the only one--an anomaly out of California that was way too far fetched of a role model.
Gabi got her first skateboard at 6--a gently used complete gifted to her by (Una Farrar). Gabs was at the skatepark on a scooter when she saw Una shredding on her skateboard. Gabi went right up to Una and was basically like "you're so cool, I wish I could be cool like you". Una contacted me (as I was working at the park at the time) and gave me a setup to give to Gabi. Gabi shreds with so much confidence and can go pro if she wants it bad enough because it now seems like a viable option thanks to women like Una paving the way.
I can honestly say that I'm cool with never having gone pro because I love my life and am honoured to get to be a part of helping girls like Gabi access all the opportunities available to them that I never thought were possible for me. The fight for equity and equality is not over but things have certainly shifted and I'm so flippin' stoked to be a part of the revolution.

These four🥰🥰🥰🥰
George, Vivian, Lukas and Evan were some of the first skaters to join the B.O.L.D. skate family and have become the raddest crew of shredders around!
Their support of one another is inspirational and infectious: they encourage each other to keep trying; they film endless attempts and they explode in celebration for the makes.
I am so grateful to have played a role in bringing these four together, am thrilled by the progress they have made and can't wait to see what they'll do next!
