Sad news in the local hockey world, unfortunately 18 yr old Grant died when involved in a motor vehicle accident as he was on his way to hockey practice with the Peninsula Panthers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. RIP GRANT. There is a go-fund-me listed below if you can please help the family.

Early Monday evening, Grant Gilbertson was involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident as he drove to a scheduled practice with his Peninsula Panthers mates, an incident which took the life of the 18-year-old talented forward.

A decision I've thought about for approx 2 years now...

Its tough for me to write this as hockey is my passion but I've put in 14 years of organizing hockey, events and tournaments over the years which started in 2007 with James M and friends, I've had an amazing experience doing this, met some amazing people along the way, have had the pleasure of having extra help with organizing too from peers and made some great memories however it's time for me to step-down from organizing hockey, events and tourneys.

The truth is I have my son on weekends and it's harder for me to plan/organize events on weekends. Also I've spent many summers never camping or doing things I want to enjoy, instead was always focusing my energy and time on hockey, events and tourneys for everyone else to enjoy, and while that also brought me joy, it is also bitter sweet at times, the time has come for me to shift my energy and time to focus on other things in life even if that just means to relax a bit more! Having time off due to restrictions and having events mostly canceled it has made me realize that I value my time differently than before.

Moving forward Topaz Hockey will be in good hands of our amazing group called THPA, a group of inner-core hockey players which is a team of about 8 players that will continue to organize hockey, events and tourneys. So keep posted for more exciting stuff in the years to come from them!

This has been an amazing adventure and I want to thank all of you for your amazing support over the years, definitely couldn't have done it without all of you!

Don't worry I'll still be around to drop-in to play hockey and maybe even help out at an event for a touch or play in a tourney finally instead of organizing and not getting to play.

Thanks for understanding and thank you for the years of amazing experiences!
