The leaves out here in the country, where we live, are already turning yellow and falling with every gust of wind, with Fall clearly upon us. As avid gardeners it’s a busy time, a time to reap what we sowed back in spring. We never really know what the garden will give, but we plant anyway and hope for the best!

Reaping is the word that will drive our conversation this upcoming Friday, September 11th at the Forks. We will reflect on our growth this past summer and bring into focus what is coming this fall.

The conversation will be warm, genuine, insightful and inspiring, which is what you can expect at every Growth Café!

Monday Colour Splash🫛

In May, these vegetables were all just seeds. I am always in awe at this time of year once we start harvesting the goodness from our garden.

When I planted these seeds, I only had an idea of what would come from them. Everything that was growing underground through the summer is only visible now.

Change and growth can work the same way in us. It can take time to understand or see what we have become or becoming. If a lot has shifted for you, that’s not you falling apart, that’s you growing into something new.

I got back from seven days at the lake where I enjoyed early morning canoe rides, reading, swimming, and rowdy card games with the family. The early mornings were spent on the dock watching the new day unfold. I reheated the same cup of tea three times because the water was too beautiful to walk away from!

On the drive home I asked myself a question I ask my clients all the time. Where am I, really, right now?

Twenty years of holding space for people crossing the hardest thresholds of their lives have taught me how important it is to take time to ask that question.

The question is the first one in a worksheet that I have prepared for you: How to Find Your Footing When Everything Familiar Has Changed. It has three questions and takes 15 minutes. It’s simply a way back to yourself when the map you’ve been using stops matching the ground under your feet.

You’re not lost, you just haven’t had the quiet time yet to ask.

Monday Colour Splash 🌿💛

These plants have stories to tell.

The marigolds, the flowers my grandmothers grew to keep the deer away. The dahlias, my paternal grandmother’s favourite. She grew them every year, and on my way home from school I would stop and visit her and her gardens, always in awe of what she was up to. The ferns are from her home after she was gone. The hostas are from a special aunty. The peonies remind me of how they lined the barn walls at my favourite cousin’s home. And so many more, each plant a reminder of someone or some place.

And the butterflies, there were two of them, remind me of my mother and mother-in-law, both gone this past year, but still showing up. 🙂

A few days ago, a special transplanting day with my daughter Jasmine, the way my mother and I used to do.

Monday colour splash!

Ever wonder what happens to the leftover paint from my workshops?

I take it home and paint with it.

It’s how I process the day. I think of each person who was there, the stories they shared, the colours they chose. Every mark carries something of them.

You don’t have to wait for the next workshop to feel what happened in that room: the connection, the honesty, the joy of finally giving yourself permission to just be.

That’s what I hold every third Tuesday in Together Beyond, my monthly virtual gathering, open to all.

I’m certain many of you can relate that Mother’s Day can hold A LOT at once.🌷

A couple of weeks ago, I was so excited to be watching Mel Robbins live in Vancouver after years of following her! I was with my daughter Jasmine, my first born and the same daughter who is moving out in less than two weeks.

FIrst Mother’s Day without my own mom.

Mel talked about TIME being the most valuable thing you have. I already knew that and I think we all do. But knowing something and truly FEELING it are two very different things. Sitting there, between the grief of losing my mom and the pride of watching my daughter step into her next chapter was a moment I will never forget.

I thought about times I spent with my mom and the moments I didn’t always realize I was collecting. So grateful for every bit of time well spent with her and looking over at my daughter grateful to be making memorable moments with her now.
