Vernon Sr. Tigers Lacrosse

Fifty years ago, Sunday Sept 6th, 1976. The Vernon Tigers won their first national lacrosse championship, then almost didn’t make it home. Flying back from Winnipeg the next day, their plane caught fire over the Alberta foothills. Pilot Barry Lapointe brought it down safely in a field near Pincher Creek, and every player walked away. He’d go on to found Kelowna Flightcraft.

This week we stood with Barry in front of the museum display in the KF Centre for Excellence that tells that whole story, and handed him a plaque signed by our 2026 TOSLL finalist squad. Fifty years ago he got the ‘76 Tigers home safe. Today he’s one of our valued sponsors.

Our thoughts and condolences to Marlon’s family.
Marlon played with the Vernon Royals from the late 1990’s to the early 2000’s and will be greatly missed.

In loving memory, we honour the life and legacy of Marlon Schaper-Kotter, who has sadly passed away. Join us in remembering Marlon Schaper-Kotter.

2026 season closed out this weekend with golf and a few beverages at the year-end party. Good food, lots of laughs, and a solid way to put a bow on the season. Thanks to Brodie for hosting!

This past week the Vernon’s very own Steph Richards got the call up to play with the Langley thunder of the WLA.
Steph showed up big time with 2 GOALS! And was a huge part of the thunders comeback win against the Burnaby Lakers.

I suspect this isn’t the last game for Steph in the WLA.

Steph Richard is taking his talents to the WLA!

Steph has been called up by the Langley Thunder of the WLA and if you’ve watched him play for the Tigers this year, you knew this was coming.

A proud member of OKIB, Steph came up through North Okanagan minor lacrosse system and has stayed rooted in our community ever since, now coaching the next generation of North Okanagan minor lacrosse players himself.

This season he’s been a straight-up star for us

That’s a wrap on our season but what a ride.

Final score: Armstrong Shamrocks 7 - Vernon Tigers 5

Two goals. That’s all that separated us from a championship. Two goals, after years of not winning a single game.

This team turned it ALL around this year, and every single one of you were part of that story.

Hardest Worker Award goes to Ryan Johnson — the guy has put in unreal work all season, every single game. Well deserved, Ryan.

Your Vernon Sr. Tigers just KNOCKED OFF the Kelowna Raiders 13-8 to punch our ticket to the FINALS — first time since 2008 we’ve made it this far. Let that sink in. 🐯🔥

Between the pipes, Brodie McDonald was an absolute WALL — 45 shots faced, only 8 let through. Well earned hardest worker award.

But this wasn’t one guy — this was a team that battled every shift, every loose ball, every faceoff to get here.
