OMAHA is excited to announce that Girl’s Rock the Rink is BACK! Brought to you by the Grindstone Award Foundation

and sponsored by Kelowna Minor Hockey. The Grindstone Award Foundation is a newly formed Registered Canadian Charity

that provides financial support and equipment to female hockey players in need.


Date: July 22, 2017

Cost: FREE. Donations are welcome to support the Charity.

Where: Royal LePage Place, West Kelowna


There is no need to donate to participate in this event but any donation received will go towards the Charity. Our goal of sponsoring 10 young female players this upcoming season!
Open to all levels and ages from 5-18 years.
If you don’t have gear… no worries… Play It Again Sports will get you set up for free.
Included will be 2 on-ice sessions, 1 off-ice, and Lunch/Craft Time. *Sorry lunch isn’t included*

Female Midget AAA Playoff Preview

The 2016-2017 Female Midget AAA regular season is in the books, and the playoff matchups have been determined. The Greater Vancouver Comets and Thompson-Okanagan Lakers have earned first-round byes while the Northern Capitals will host the Fraser Valley Rush and the Vancouver Island Seals will take on the Kootenay Wild in the quarter-final matchups.

First-round byes:
#1 Greater Vancouver Comets (29-1-0)
The Greater Vancouver Comets dominated all major statistical categories during the 2016-17 season, suffering only one loss (Northern Capitals), after stringing together 22 straight wins to start the season. Jenn Gardiner (Surrey) led the league in scoring with 34 points (15G, 19A) in 30 games while the goaltending duo of Cassie Shokar (Surrey) and Brooke Vial (Port Moody) had a combined goals against average of 1.13 on the season.

#2 Thompson-Okanagan Lakers (13-10-7)
After starting the season with four (4) straight losses, the Lakers then rattled off 11 straight games with a point including six (6) wins and five (5) ties. They also ended the season with a pair of wins over Vancouver Island to secure a first-round bye to edge out the Northern Capitals by two (2) points on the year.

Quarter-final matchups:
#3 Northern Capitals (14-13-3) vs. #6 Fraser Valley Rush (3-21-6)
Game 1: March 10, Time: 2:00 pm, CN Centre, Prince George
Game 2: March 11, Time: 3:15 pm, Rolling Mix Concrete Arena, Prince George
Game 3: March 12, Time: 12:15 pm, Rolling Mix Concrete Arena, Prince George*

The Northern Capitals started the season strong with four (4) straight wins and were in several close games including six (6) one-goal games and three (3) ties. Offensively, they were led by Caily Mellott (100 Mile House) who tied for the league lead in goals and finished second in league scoring with 31 points (20G, 11A).

The Fraser Valley Rush had a tough season, however one (1) of the team’s three (3) wins came against their first-round opponent. One of the bright spots was affiliate player Katie Chan (Richmond) who scored three (3) goals in two (2) games for Fraser Valley.


#4 Kootenay Wild (10-14-6) vs. #5 Vancouver Island Seals (6-16-8)
Game 1: March 10, Time: 2:45 pm, Cominco Arena, Trail
Game 2: March 11, Time: 4:45 pm, Cominco Arena, Trail
Game 3: March 12, Time: 8:00 am, Cominco Arena, Trail *

The Kootenay Wild are led by two (2) of the league’s top four (4) scoring forwards in Reece Hunt (Nelson) who tallied 31 points (16G, 15A) in 29 games along with Kelsey Patterson (Castlegar) who tied for the league lead in goals with 20 to go along with eight (8) assists in 30 games.

The Vancouver Island Seals were led by captain Maryna Macdonald (Port Alberni) who led all defencemen in scoring with 12 goals and nine (9) assists in 30 games. She was the lone Seal player to have more than six (6) goals on the season.

BC Hockey announced that Kaitlyn Daly of the Kootenay Wild has been the Female Midget AAA (FMAAA) Player of the Month for February 2017. The 5’6” goaltender from Coquitlam, BC had a 3-2-0 record and 1.27 goals against average (GAA) last month.
