The 55+ BC Games kick off today in Kamloops, and we’re excited to have THREE Vernon Curling Club teams competing! 🎉

We’re proud to see our members representing Vernon and our club on the ice. We’ll be cheering you on every rock of the way! ❤️🥌

🥌 Meet Dave Merklinger! AKA Merk!

If you’ve been around the Vernon Curling Club, chances are you already know Dave.

Dave learned the art of ice making from none other than the late, great Shorty Jenkins, and today he’s passing that knowledge along to the next generation of ice makers — including his son, Mike.

Dave’s expertise has taken him to some of the biggest events in curling. If he’s not making ice for a Brier, Scotties or World Championship, you’ll find him right here at our club!

We’re pretty lucky to have Dave at the Vernon Curling Club. 🥌👏

Here are a few dates to mark on your calendar:

🧊 Sept. 1 — Ice installation begins
📝 Sept. 15 — In-person registration | 5:30–7:30 PM
🥌 Sept. 23 — Curling Clinic | 6:00–8:00 PM | $30
📣 Sept. 27 — Annual General Meeting | 6:00 PM

🏆 CASH SPIEL | OCT. 1–5
Come watch some of the world’s best curlers compete right here at the Vernon Curling Club! Morning, afternoon & evening draws, plus great food from Stone Throw Cafe.

🥌 LEAGUE CURLING BEGINS
Men’s League: Oct. 5 at 6:30 PM

🥌 Meet Don! 👨‍🍳 our Red Seal Chef!

This is Don back in 1978, celebrating a North Delta Curling Championship! 🏆

What many people may not know is that Don has curling in his bones. From his junior curling days, to men’s curling, coaching in our junior program, and now heading off to compete in the 55+ Games next week — curling has been a big part of his life.

And when he’s not on the ice, you’ll find Don doing what he does BEST — creating amazing food in the Stones Throw Cafe! 👨‍🍳

A talented chef, a lifelong curler, a coach, and a great part of our curling club and community.

We’re pretty lucky to have you, Don! 🥌❤️. Play well next week!

🥌 MEET JAMIE AUSTIN!

Jamie is the Vice President of our Vernon Curling Club Board and, although he recently moved to Kelowna, it’s true… his heart is still right here in Vernon — and at the best curling club in the Okanagan! ❤️🥌

Jamie is a true community person. He’s also the driving force and President of Funtastic, an incredible event that brings thousands of people to our little town each year.

He knows how to bring people together, build community and put on one heck of an event — and we’re pretty lucky to have that experience, energy and passion on our board.

Welcome to the spotlight, Jamie! We’re so glad your curling heart stayed in Vernon. 😉🥌
