I know a lot of people have this goal, but not many people have this in mind.

What makes you last long is totally dependent on the health of your joints.
Movement efficiency basically means not stressing any “particular” joint while you move and do the stuff you do.
We all have to use all our joints in our body in order to move.
How well you use them generally requires a base understanding how your body actually works.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t part of our school curriculum growing up, but we all still have a long active life to live, and it’s never too late to learn😉

If you are a keen learner, stay tuned.
I know the Internet is a confusing place, but I’ll help you connect the dots of your fragmented knowledge😄

No, cardio is not my first choice.
(Although I’ve never regretted once I’m done)
Playing ⚽️ is, ALWAYS my first choice of “exercise”.

But can my body handle just playing everyday?
Would that be a wise choice for my body?

You already know the answer.

Not all form of exercise is created “equal”.
Not all form of exercise makes you or keeps you healthy.
That’s why, if you want to enjoy playing the sport you love, you have to do the things OUTSIDE your sport to keep yourself in good status for your sport.

I play ⚽️ for pleasure, and for the sense of belonging.
It’s an important part of my life and my goal is to minimize the “downtime” (the time lost due to injury)

Unfortunately, as we age,
🙈we need more time to recover
➡️please don’t try to play everyday just because you love it too much…
🙈we need to strategize how we design a week
➡️don’t forget you need dedicated strength and cardio sessions too without overtraining yourself…
🙈we probably have to spend more time doing the things we don’t necessarily love to do to keep us in shape.
➡️keep reminding yourself it’s for the love of your game!

There’s a lot of thought that goes into staying healthy (for your sport) as you age.

What do you do outside of your sport to stay healthy?

Strong ≠ Athletic
(If you haven’t read part 1, make sure you do that first)

Athleticism isn’t built on lifting weights.
It’s built on different principles.
If you want to reclaim your athleticism or want to keep feeling athletic after you hit your peak, I recommend focussing on movements that will directly translate into your sport.
Refining some movement patterns can do wonders not only with your performance, but also to prevent unwanted injuries.
The better you can move, the more athletic longevity you will gain. As simple as that.
The rest (speed, power, agility) is the icing on the cake 🧁. These will fluctuate according to the time invested.

if you want to restore your athletic foundation, stay in the game for years to come, make sure you stay tuned for more.
