On February 7th, 1976 (exactly 50 years ago), Darryl Sittler scored 10 points against the Boston Bruins, setting the record for most points scored in a game by one player. A record he still holds to this day that not even Gretzky was able to beat. Unfortunately the Bruins kept goalie David Reece (number 30) for the whole game instead of switching him with Gerry Cheevers (number 30). Fun fact, Darryl was behind on schedule on game day and in a hurry. So he drove to Swiss Chalet to pick up a chicken meal since he didn't have time to have his usual pregame meal. So a half chicken meal from Swiss Chalet might be the secret to setting hockey game records. Despite many great players having multiple high scoring games, no one has been able to score more than 8 points in a game. Also, the last time anyone came close to tying or beating Sittler’s record is Sam Gagner who scored 8 points (4 goals and 4 assists) on February 2nd, 2012 for the Edmonton Oilers against the Chicago Blackhawks. Gagner tied Paul Coffey and Wayne Gretzky’s record for most points scored in a game as an Edmonton Oiler.
