How many times in a day do you think about doing something different and immediately discredit it because it feels like it's too late?

It's one of the main struggles people mention to me when they are considering making a shift in their career, regardless if it's to do with starting a new business or working on team dynamics at the office.

It's never too late to get started.

It sounds like an overused catchphrase, and without any effort behind it, it is. But it's also the truth.

No one can do this for you except YOU. And I can pretty much guarantee that when you are *too old* (aka dead and gone) the last thoughts you have on your way out won't be about how you wish you'd ignored yourself and never taken the risk to chase down what you really wanted.

Whether you're 26 or 62, it's time to make s**t happen the way you want it to. Either that or accept the things that lazily roll around to you because you've consciously chosen not to make happen the other things you really want.

Think about it.
Then call me. 💛

Did you know I send a weekly newsletter? Every Friday, I land in your inbox with a little business tip, one thing I’m loving, and one thing I’m leaving.

My goal is to keep it light AND useful. Fun but not frivolous. I think it’s pretty great (if I do say so myself!)

Check it out. It’s linked in my bio or leave ‘DM’ in the comments and I’ll send you the link to sign up.

Looking for meaningful connections with your audience? An ideal client avatar may be just what you need because your ideal customer is more than a target market. It's the person you focus on when you're building your business, your offer, your marketing, and ultimately, your growth.

To reach them effectively, you need to personalize your message, but how can you personalize it when you don't know much about them? You guessed it...an ideal client avatar.

Here are some quick tips to help you figure out who that is and get you on your way to building a creative business that makes money.

• Identify a broad target demographic. Choose a group of people that you're drawn to and want to work with. Think about some of the experiences you've had that resonate with this group related to the services you provide.

• Have 1:1 conversations with people that fall into this demographic to get to know them better, especially their goals, pain points, and challenges. Have a lot of conversations. Ask a lot of questions. A LOT.

• Look for trends that come out of these conversations. Trends show where the market gap is that's negatively impacting them. Hint: make sure you meet with several people so you can actually recognize trends and commonalities. Three conversations don't produce a trend.

• Pay attention to your energy based on their responses. Yes, what they have to share with you is critical, but so is your energetic response. No one wants to build a business doing something that doesn't resonate with them. Your energy towards your business offering is legitimate. In fact, it's a total game-changer.

• Take all the information you've gathered and bring your ideal client avatar to life. Be specific right down to their name, age, monthly income, goals, challenges, values, and habits. Every detail matters because the better you know them, the better you can market to them, and most importantly, the better you can serve them. And when you serve them well, guess what...they tell their friends.

Many years ago–in fact, what almost feels like a lifetime ago–I was in a job that I adored. I was on a great team, felt good about what I did and enjoyed the people I worked with. The job allowed me to be creative and expressive but also required critical thinking and business acumen. A great fit as I operate on a pendulum of creativity and logic, but after several years I felt I wanted more and moved on.

I was offered a new role, entirely different from what I had been doing, but I am a quick learner and knew I’d find my groove. And I did…kind of. I learned the ropes and could do the job, but I never really felt comfortable. I desperately wanted to swim but was frantically treading water just to stay afloat.

It was totally conflicted between being happy and being employed until ultimately, the inevitable decision arrived where I could either stay in the safety of a regular paycheque or take a pretty big risk and leave. And here we are!

It wasn’t easy, and it’s not a cookie-cutter journey. It’s also not for everyone.

BUT…and it’s a big BUT…what is for everyone is this:

Someone’s opinion of where you should be and what you should be doing should never dictate your reality. You get one chance to be alive. Don’t live your life according to someone else's agenda.

Define your own meaning of success and chase it. It doesn’t have to be dollar bills or flashy vacations. Society has adopted this representation of success and celebrates big bank accounts and shiny lifestyles. But really, success is extremely personal and can mean many different things.

What does success mean to you? Not your friends, not your family, not your boss. YOU. How can you achieve that while living a lifestyle that aligns with the person you want to be?

Yes, you need income–that’s simply a reality–and I’d never suggest to anyone that they risk their financial security and chaotically chase after their dreams. Make a plan, build a cushion, and start taking steps towards your own definition of success.

You know the saying ‘you didn’t come this far to only come this far’?

Keep going.
Stay focused.
Stop settling.

Making money is great, but at what expense?
