The mental aspect of training and racing is just as important as the physical. Be confident with your ability and visualise success, whatever your goals are.

Be careful not to sabotage your race, your event, or your training with negative thinking and unrealistic comparisons to other athletes. High performance is about being at your best in the present moment, it's not about beating everyone else. Therefore every athlete has the ability to be a high performer regardless of whether they finish last or first.
