International Swim Meet was originally founded in 1963 as Canada Cup by legendary swim coach Howard Firby. His vision was to bring elite talent to Vancouver to race local athletes, both to inspire the community and to develop international talent right here at home. has graciously sponsored this annual meet in memory of his sons Mel and Marty. was a member of the Canadian national swim team and co

mpeted at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Many household names have come through the doors of the Mel Zajac Jr. International Swim Meet since its inception, including most Canadian Olympians and international stars like Missy Franklin, Park Tae-hwan and Ryan Lochte.
