Arts Umbrella Dance

Arts Umbrella’s Dance program is internationally recognized for producing highly employable graduates who are dancing in companies around the world.

Arts Umbrella's Dance program is internationally recognized as high-quality training that develops the whole dancer, stressing technique, strength, intellectual and artistic expression, with a focus on health and wellness. Young dancers are given the opportunity to explore dance as artists, performers, audience members and professionals. The program has a strong foundation in Classical Ballet, Jaz

z and Contemporary dance forms. Program options range from beginner to career-level dance training, including a half-day academic program and a post-secondary dance diploma program in partnership with Vancouver Community College. In addition to regular classes, Arts Umbrella professional-level dance students are given the opportunity to work with local and internationally renowned guest artists and perform world-class choreography through participation in the Arts Umbrella Dance Company. ⁠Our first week of ISDI began with reverence and reflection to the question: "What is dance today?"⁠

The ideas proposed by our guest teachers have resonated in every one of our dancers. The care and generosity that everyone has brought to this program have amplified the excitement of what dance will be.⁠

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT | PRE-ELEMENTARY

Our Pre-Elementary 1 and 2 dancers just wrapped up a big few weeks! This dedicated group of young dancers debuted a new work in our very first Sunday Performance of the season alongside the Arts Umbrella Dance Company. Pre-Elementary 1 and 2 dancers also had the opportunity to take part in a Cecchetti Masterclass at the Shadbolt, with some being invited to perform in the 37th Cecchetti Classical Ballet Awards showcasing dancers from across the greater Vancouver area!

Interested in the Pre-Elementary Program? Auditions are being held on Sunday, February 16th for Pre-Elementary, Afternoon Professional Training Program, ISDI2, and ISDI. Registration closes Monday, February 10th.

30 MINUTE TRIAL CLASS FOR 6-10 YEAR OLDS!

Saturday June 8, 2024
1:00-1:30 PM
Ages 6-10 (going into Grade 1-5)
Studio 403, Arts Umbrella Granville Island

Come try out the different dance styles available in our dance packages: jazz, Broadway jazz, and modern. This short, free trial class will give students’ a snippet of each style of dance to help you make a decision about which dance package you want to enroll in! Arts Umbrella’s Registration Fair will be taking place simultaneously (from 10:30 AM-2:30 PM), so be sure to stop by the dance table and pick up your registration form for the 2024/25 programs.

No registration for the class is required. Wear clothes you can move in and socks!
