Radical Embodied Grappling (REG)

1. The world does not exist independently and prior to our experience. It’s co-created—continuously shaped by actions, bringing forth agency and autonomy in fashioning a ‘world(s).‘

2. Therefore, world-hood is emergent and teleological. Nothing is pre-given or pre-specified. Any attempt to encapsulate or define it is a fiction.

3. So, embodied grappling is ‘radical’ in the sense that it appeals to the primacy of experience, of perception; to approach it from a common, average, everyday experience. From where you are. As operative. Useful. Making sense. Where theory, frameworks, pre-determined ‘games’ are reduced to an infinitesimal level, they appear non-existent.

4. Meaning: self-hood appears real when interacting with phenomena. There is no ‘knower’ or ‘doer’ outside of experience.

5. Uncertainty is never constituted. It’s invoked. As world-hood is teleological, goal-directed intentions seek ambiguous and novel interactions to expand ranges of possibilities.

Reject coaches, teachers, and professors to learn—even what I’m saying. Inspiration is fine, but following stops learning. Hoarding knowledge or bending to influence is corruptive. Learning is always new, innocent, and passionate—it’s intelligence. Adaptation to sudden, emergent changes requires no authority.

Intentionality is not goal-oriented. It’s manifold: intentionality-towards-meaning (lived experience); intentionality-towards-fulfilment (achievement of tasks and goals); intentionality-as-evidence (self-evidencing and proof of lived experience).

1. Particular defensive structures are able to frustrate your opponent’s preferred grips in judo.
2. Other forms of back control to secure strangles in jiu-jitsu.
3. Wrestling groundwork as defensive / offensive structures.
4. Wrestle-outs and stand-ups instead of playing guard.

Multi-disciplinary. Experimental. Innovative. Our goal is continuously represent the highest expression of grappling on the spectrum. This August will be four years of Praxis Grappling. To commemorate, we host yearly free practices open to all athletes and academies. This year, practice is as follows:

Saturday August 3rd, 2024
11am: throws + takedowns (gi)
12pm: grappling (gi)

Sunday August 4th, 2024

Athletes embody a generative model or a series of “narratives.” It’s how we expect the world and ourselves to be in order to guide our behaviour. Salience of the world is made via inference. Perception is “direct” if agents predict current and future states based on a history of structural coupling with the environment. The process continuously updates the generative model through the self-organizing capabilities of the player.
