*VIDEO LESSONS BEGIN THIS WEEK*
As we had announced last week, we'll be starting video Wing Tsun Kung Fu lessons tomorrow, Monday March 1st.
This first week will be FREE, and covers the theory on Wing Tsun footwork, the "secret", of the system. Well, there are not really any secrets, beyond consistent & proper training, but it is more fun to have a little bit of the classical mystery of martial arts, even if just tongue-in-cheek:)
The classes will be live on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00pm-6:00pm, and available for streaming at any time, if you miss any classes. After the first week, the classes will be $99 monthly. The first three months, we will going through every chapter of the classic "Teach Yourself: Dynamic Wing Tsun Kung Fu" by Grandmaster Leung Ting, the last closed-door student of the great Ip Man (you've probably heard of the movies), and the founder of our branch of the art. By the end, you will have a very good understanding of the basics of the Leung Ting Wing Tsun System.
Footwork is one of the most important pieces of the Wing Tsun System as, to paraphrase Grandmaster Leung Ting; "Just imagine what happens to a practitioner who has strong & skilled upper limbs, but a weak stance? They are like Hercules standing on a piece of floating wood, never making anywhere near full-use of their strength and skill!" For this reason, we begin with the section on footwork so our skill in this most important aspect is worked on from the very start.
Now you'll notice I did not mention self-defense or fighting in the subject of the email, and for good reason. The real benefit of martial arts training is in what it does for your life beyond just pugilism. Your balance and coordination will improve, great for increased athleticism and fall/injury-prevention, and you will instill more discipline into your life by regular, mindful, & focused training.
Another added bonus is the sense of confidence and accomplishment you get from seeing your skills improve over time. In fact, the longer you train in a martial art, the less likely you are to be involved in a physical altercation as have better control of your ego, are more mindful & aware of your surroundings, and confident enough to control your environment, and who is allowed close-by or into it. These, and the ones in the paragraph above, are the real benefits, as we are very unlikely to actually need to defend ourselves against an attack, however, if we could learn a martial art that provided devastatingly effective self-defense at the same time, why not?
Wing Tsun was invented by a woman to fight against a much bigger, stronger, and faster male opponent, using his strength, size and speed against him. A cleverly designed system, relying on geometry, common-sense, and the development of specific movement qualities, to avoid the opponents force, absorb some of the power, and return it to them, amplifying our own!
The best way to really experience WT is to try it, so please feel free to join us at 5pm this Monday and Wednesday! Just send a message, and we will send the link If you cannot make it, send a message, and we'll forward you the link to watch the recording.
Train hard.
Seek peace.
