Wow! What a weekend!
Hopefully this isn’t a slo pitch tournament that only happens once every century in Val Marie, but if it is, at least it was one to remember!

Would like to start again by thanking all the teams that entered. It was great to see the support. Lots of laughs, cheers, good hits and nice catches made. Some great commaraderie out there, with some friendly jabs and chirps. It looked like everyone had a great time!

We had a real barn burner of an A final. Went the distance and required an extra inning. When the dust settled, the Cashton Carleton team emerged as the Centennial Champions over the Lebel team. Was a great final to watch.

The Orkney Championship was won by the Tristen Sulz team. A family team with a few Legaults and a couple other local players, topped the Jacob Duquette team. Thanks again for providing some exciting ball!

The Hillandale Championship was won by Wyatt Mitchell. The Beaver Valley Championship was won by Rhett Poppy.

Consolation winners were Jessie Grant in the hillandale side, and The Park Squad on the beaver valley side.

Hats off to the teams of paige Hayes/dan Glas, Beau Larson, Whitney Booth and the in-laws and outlaws (Syrenne family) for coming out as well. Great people all around on those teams!

Big shout out, again, to Matthew Palaschak of Matt’s Construction for donating the light plants for Friday nights games. Had lots of people commenting on how awesome it was to have the night games. Added a very cool element to the tournament.

Congratulations to the Centennial Committee for putting on such a tremendous weekend. The atmosphere was incredible, and even with the extreme heat, people were having a great time. Such a special weekend!

And lastly, thank you and congratulations to the Val Marie community. Proud to call this place home.

All the best,
Val Marie Lions Club

(Managed to get a few team pictures but unfortunately didn’t get every team)

Here we go folks! This is it. The FINAL/OFFICIAL Val Marie Centennial Tournament Bracket!!!!

A big thank you again to the teams that entered. 12 teams is definitely new territory for us, but we were happy to accept the challenge of making it work! More teams=more people which makes us happy.

Making a draw is not an easy task. We format our tournament for a 3 game guarantee with no back to back games. Some teams will play 4 games, however we were able to make it so that you only play 2 games per day, thanks to the light stands donated by Matthew Palaschak from Matt’s construction 🤘🏼.

Another thanks to Kelly Grant for designing and printing the tournament bracket on a large poster for us. It’s way better looking than the sharpie and beer box I was going to make it on. When ya see Kelly, make sure to buy him a beer.

We did the tournament brackets with names from the districts surrounding Val Marie. A nod to the history of those areas and the people still living there, that now call Val Marie Home. We hope you enjoy that!

Can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow!

The slo pitch schedule is being finalized and team captains will be contacted tonight or tomorrow in regards to their first game.

But this post is an appreciation, shout out, thank you post.

A HUGE shout out to Matthew Palaschak at Matt’s contracting LTD. Matthew is donating 3 light plants for us to use for our slo pitch tournament to light up the ball diamonds Friday night! What Matthew’s generosity means is that we can get thru our tournament in a timely fashion, and not requiring us to start super early Saturday morning, cause let’s face it, when the beer gardens are bumping Friday night, nobody wants to get up early to play ball Saturday morning, (except make sure you get up early enough to check out the Pancake breakfast from 8-11 Saturday morning at the rink lobby 😁).

Matthew is a local boy, hailing from the beaver valley district. When you see Matthew this weekend, make sure to buy him a drink or 2 or 10. Or make sure he has a safe ride home. Or buy him a meal. Words can’t even describe what this means to us, so thank you will do for now.

Excited to see everyone this weekend. Check out the Val Marie and Val Marie celebrating centuries pages for more updates on the coming weekend. There is gonna be lots to see and do. Can’t wait!!
