Country Hill Farm is excited to add an Assistant Barn Manager position to the Team!

Are you a reliable and knowledgeable horseperson who is looking to add some flexible hours to your weekly schedule? Are you looking to advance your equestrian career and improve your skills?

This is a position that can be crafted to suit the right person – you’ll be a pinch-hitter, a jack-or-jill of all equine-related skills.

Horse experience is a must for this position. You must be able to handle horses confidently and safely, and know how to manage tasks including grooming, blanketing, feeding, and basic equine first aid. Riding and teaching skills and experience are also assets.

The job can come with some special perks. There’s potential for you to bring your own horse(s) with you, live in a lovely on-property, fully furnished apartment, teach lessons, advance your riding levels or achieve your coaching credentials.

Country Hill Farm owner and manager Kathy Fremes is also a Competition and Licensed Coach as well as a Mentor and Coach Developer, and Certified Cartier Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator. The owner has worked for the University of Guelph and has taught management of the equine environment – her farm has won two environmental awards of excellence!

Duties would include some night check shifts, occasional help with daily barn tasks, farm-sitting while the owner is away, and other jobs that aren’t able to be completed during our daily schedule. The owner needs a competent person to take charge when she is unable to be on site.

Compensation is flexible and will depend on experience. But it could include hourly wages, or the equivalent pay in discounted board, lessons by a competition coach, and accommodation.

Country Hill Farm is a small, quiet, privately owned boarding farm with a great group of friendly boarders who take lessons along with some outside students. The farm has a large indoor arena, outdoor sand ring, grass dressage area, small cross-country course, large paddocks and great hacking on the farm and more nearby.

The farm is 5 minutes from the Stouffville Go Train and easily accessible via major highways.

Interested candidates should contact the owner at [email protected]

Healthy Lands for Healthy Horses

And how can you tell a farm is in that category?

If this turtle could talk, she’d say that she was born here and wintered under the icy surface of our spring-fed pond. She’s about the size of a dinner plate. Females return to their place of birth to lay eggs and start their families.

Riders, you will see where she buried the eggs marked by a pink stool on the side of the driveway to the house. Don’t disturb. In previous posts there are pictures of baby turtles, recently hatched, who are the size of a dime held in a hand! Stay tuned to CHF FB.

Also, the swimming pool is now open but guess who the first swimmers are...green frogs! Frogs are also a sign of environmental health because they are so easily affected by chemicals, being thin skinned. They are plentiful around Country Hill, and we’ve got a small pond that is a great place to find these high divers. The swimming pool is for humans, not amphibians!

Country Hill has also earned two environmental awards of excellence.

Country Hill Farm is looking to add a pinch-hitter to the team!

Country Hill Farm is a small, and quiet privately owned boarding farm, with a lesson program for boarders and some outside students. The facility boasts an indoor arena, cross country course, sand ring and great hacking both onsite and more nearby.

The right candidate is a reliable and knowledgeable horseperson looking for some flexible part-time hours to add to their weekly schedule.

Horse experience is a must, the more the better! However, we are willing to work to increase the skills of the right candidate. You must be already able to handle horses confidently and safely, and possess knowledge in basic tasks like grooming, blanketing, feeding, first aid, etc. Teaching skills and experience are also an asset.

Duties would include some night check shifts, occasional help with daily barn tasks, some farm-sitting and various other jobs we can’t always get done in our daily schedule. The owner works for the University of Guelph teaching management of the equine environment and needs a competent person to take charge when she can’t be onsite.

Compensation is flexible; hourly wages, or the equivalent pay in discounted board for your horse(s), lessons by competition coach, and/or accommodation in our beautiful, fully furnished, onsite apartment.

The farm is also 5 minutes from the Stouffville Go Train for those out of town.

If working to pay all or part of your board is of interest, please contact
immediately as space is limited. Interested candidates should contact the owner/manager by email at:
[email protected].

A Small but Mighty Team

Despite the wind, rain and almost snow we showed! The last horse trial of the season was Will O’Wind and the venue lived up to its name.

Congratulations to riders Gillian Livingston on her beautiful and talented mare, Victoria Secret, and Grace Landry, onboard CHF’s rough and ready gelding Wimbledon, who came home with a ribbon and even a prize. As their coach I was very proud of their performances in the dressage ring, but especially over the challenging cross-country and stadium courses that included some spooky hazards. Both horses were bold, ready, and willing to conquer both!

Coming out of a COVID-related hiatus from showing of well over two years, this was an especially solid showing of bravery and fitness on the part of the riders and their mounts.

Next up.....Dressage and Dessert clinic with Dax Adam planned for November 27th. All CHF riders are welcome to participate and tune up their flat work. Sign up with Kathy Fremes and we’ll be posting a schedule soon on this FB page. Menu to follow😊

Did Someone say that Halloween was Coming Soon?

On the surface this may look like a lot of fun (and it
is) but Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is also about
building leadership and teams that function. After
COVID and the isolation that resulted in both schools and the workplace, interpersonal skills have been lost and its time to rebuild them...with the help of the horse.

In the coming months CHF will be hosting several school groups that are participating in the SHSM career building program and possibly corporate groups too.

If you are interested in this new venture and learning more about it, contact Kathy Fremes. She has recently become a certified EAL facilitator and is looking for volunteers to help with the horses and influx of students at these events. It's a great way to learn more about EAL and how it works in practice.

Did you know that Darla has a Secret

Well not so much of a secret as something she’s never shared with her students or the rest of us at CHF. She has a couple of beautiful horses of her own and here’s proof.

Darla has owned her own farm and many horses over the years. That may explain why she has a way with horses (and humans too). Yesterday, she let us have a glimpse into her private life and her personal herd of just two. But what gorgeous horses these are! These beautiful photographs she shares with us speak 1,000 words of how much she loves them.

Free Pizza and Beer ...

Got your attention? We will need painters to come and help us with our new jump polls. We were thinking of a day during the week to call this for but if weekends work better, let us know. I’ll have a sign-up sheet in the main barn with all boarders names on it and room for students too. Put down your preference if you are willing to participate and we’ll come up with a date (or two). All painters are welcome to cool off in the pool too between coats😊

Attn boarders:
Laundry Time!

Please take your dirty rain sheets and blankets home to clean. I don’t think our horses will be needing them this month.
