New vs. Old School Putting...What are you missing?

Over the past few years, amateur golfers have seen significant changes in how they learn to putt, driven by technology, analytics, and advanced instructional methods.

Here are some of the biggest changes:

Myth #1: Keep your eyes directly over the ball
Old school: This was almost universally taught as the proper putting posture.

Modern: Some modern coaches argue that slightly inside the line is better for many golfers, improving stroke path and comfort, with data backing it up.

Myth #2: A straight-back, straight-through stroke is best
Old school: This was considered the "ideal" stroke for decades.

Modern: Science shows that a slight arc is natural and allows for better control and repeatability. The straight-back method can lead to tension and inconsistencies.

Myth #3: Always accelerate through the ball
Old school: Players were told to accelerate sharply through the ball to avoid deceleration, which was thought to cause inconsistency.

Modern: Research indicates that deceleration isn’t always bad if it helps control distance. Proper rhythm and tempo are more crucial than focusing on acceleration.
