How do I ? What does that mean? That’s what we are suppose to do right?
“Throw strikes, just throw strikes!”
Ya, Ok, no problem coach.
While throwing strikes is a measurable statistic in evaluating, it doesn’t determine your success or enable growth.
Ok, let’s be reasonable. When you’re age 9 and throwing strikes it’s an awesome start to success. (hopefully with good mechanics as a priority 😉). We want to know that we can throw a strike with confidence when needed. When you’re older throwing in the zone often ‘without intent’ can be a nightmare.
Any age needs to learn the importance of moving the ball around, using all 4 quadrants along with strategies of keeping the hitter off balance. That’s right… you know it…bust at the hands, change eye 👁️ level, move off the plate and mix speeds. Woohoo, the fun stuff! 💥
We just don’t want to get stuck in the weeds, which results in…too many pitches, falling behind in the count and constantly clawing our way back.
Are you a thrower or are you a pitcher. What’s the difference between the two?
Often we say overthinking is highly over rated. Well that’s why we practice game scenarios. That’s why we communicate with our coaches and catchers. That’s why we fine tune and find confidence in each pitch. When game time comes, we pitch with authority, control and have given ourselves permission to have confidence that our game prep and practice time simply allows us attack each batter. If the narrative changes, we adapt with confidence.
Between games we get back to the drawing board. Celebrate the previous game little wins and grind away at making the things that didn’t go well, better. A growth mindset. Yes, that’s sport and a…
~Championship Mindset~ 🙌
For months my athletes have have learned new mechanics, movement patterns or honing existing to strive for the best version of themselves.
- be a pitcher~ not a thrower -
Our goals: Don’t rush. Breathe! Pitching with intent. 💯 commitment to each pitch. Does one pitch set up for success of the next?
As a coach I strive to be better and continue to be a student of the game. We get uncomfortable and explore the possibilities together.
Are we pounding the zone to get a head in the count?
…Let me tell you, constant pitching from behind in the count is dreadful. It’s exhausting.
A waste pitch? We never want to waste a pitch! Throw a competitive pitch off the plate for a purpose. Let your movement pitches evolve into swing and miss or light contact. Throw with intent!
Attack the zone, get ahead, and if you have movement let it dance!
Some of your best competitive pitches will be out of the strike zone or break off the plate! 💥
Being a pitcher in that circle can be lonely! Sometimes you take the weight of the team on your shoulders and you feel your a zero or a hero!
It’s not easy!
Ughhh, you can’t have fear of failure, you need to learn failure recovery with a growth mindset? Don’t settle. Status quo isn’t exciting ~ get after it 🤩
~sometimes you win and sometimes you learn~
Beast mode: 👁️ on the prize 🎁
…Be an athlete looking to perfect your craft.
…You’re a teammate and know your defence has your back.
…You and your catcher constantly hunting for ways to shut them down
…You are a gamer, knowing this is a game of failure, it’s one pitch at a time.
…You are a champion in your own cleats hungry for success.
…You are a teammate surrounded by your diamond sisters with one common goal! Be the best version of yourself today for each other. Compete with a winning attitude and a glass full of positive swagger!
Keep loving the game 💕
