Gemini 🪽2001 -2025🪽
Gemini was the second school pony acquired for my program, amidst the throws of covid, by the way of Kelly when I realized I was in need of another horse. I could have never realized how truly important this boy would be over the years he lived within my care.
Stoic, kind, with the ability tolerate absolute non-sense with the best of them; he immediately became a barn favourite, often on regular leases, with little girls fighting over who would get to ride him.
Taking his job as babysitter seriously, this spanned both human and in paddock, where he was known to be the boss of “The Bay Boys” (a series of substantially younger tb’s), but also was gentle yet firm with weeners/yearlings alike.
The kindest eye, and a regal frame, he was usually pulling ribbons for kids kids in droves at the grassroots/pc levels, in which he was rewarded with 50lb bags of carrots and as many pats and cuddles as he could tolerate.
In his last few working years, his job fell exclusively to light loads, as arthritis was setting in….again, he was patient and kind, and oh so safe that let small children were always well tended to in his care.
At one point when Wilf learned I had him, he had told me Gemini was one of the only horses he’d let his grandkids in the pasture with…because he’d just sit there with them, his head down for pats.
I will be forever indebted to this beautiful boy. He was responsible for teaching so many children/ja’s over the years, fostering their love of horses. His kindness towards young horses was only matched by the kindness of his eye.
Thank you to the good vet Glenn for coming at a moment’s notice when Gemi let me know it was time, and to Wayne for his specialty skills in soil movement.
May the grass be green, the fields lush, and pain be a distant memory.
In every lifetime, I hope to have horses like him cross my path.
