For six remarkable decades, the Carol Brown School of Dance has inspired generations of dancers, nurtured lifelong friendships, and enriched the cultural fabric of Trenton, Ontario. As the school celebrates its 60th Anniversary, it is fitting to recognize not only the longevity of the studio but also the extraordinary woman whose passion, dedication, and commitment to excellence have shaped thousands of lives.
Founded in 1967, the Carol Brown School of Dance has become one of Eastern Ontario's most respected dance institutions. Over sixty years, Mrs. Carol Brown has welcomed generations of students through her studio doors, creating a legacy that now spans grandparents, parents, and children. Few dance schools can proudly say they have taught three generations of the same family, yet this has become one of the hallmarks of the Carol Brown School of Dance.
Throughout its history, the school has remained committed to providing exceptional dance education in ballet, jazz, tap, and modern while following the internationally recognized syllabus of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD). Students are encouraged not only to perform but also to challenge themselves through formal examinations that develop discipline, technical excellence, confidence, and artistry.
What truly sets Mrs. Brown apart is her outstanding professional achievement within the international dance community.
As a Fellow and Examiner of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD), Mrs. Brown has earned one of the profession's highest distinctions. The BATD, founded in 1892, is the world's second-oldest professional dance teaching organization and one of the most respected examination bodies internationally. Becoming a Fellow recognizes years of advanced study, teaching excellence, and professional contribution, while serving as an Examiner places Mrs. Brown among a select group entrusted with assessing and maintaining the highest standards of dance education for teachers and students alike.
This prestigious role extends Mrs. Brown's influence far beyond her own studio. Through her work as a BATD Examiner, she has helped shape the education of countless dancers and teachers, ensuring that future generations continue to receive training of the highest calibre. It is an achievement that reflects not only technical expertise but also the respect she has earned from her peers across Canada and the international dance community.
Over the past sixty years, Mrs. Brown has never lost sight of what matters most—the students. Whether introducing a tiny dancer to their very first ballet position, preparing an advanced student for professional examinations, or celebrating a recital performance, she has consistently instilled confidence, perseverance, discipline, grace, and a genuine love of dance.
