A little weekend camping recap....πŸ”₯

A road trip with Charley taking his very important truck passenger duties seriously, some pretty good scenery along the way, setting up camp, wandering the trails, finding a waterfall, getting out on the water, sitting around the fire and dinner cooked by the husband. ❀️

Pretty much everything we needed for a good weekend!

And Charley stealing the supper tray. πŸ˜‚

Listen, if I’m going to have a midlife crisis, I’d at least like it to come with some muscle definition. πŸ˜‚

So yes, I lift weights. Not because I’m trying to become a fitness robot who meal preps chicken and broccoli for the rest of her life.

I just figure if I’m going to spend this stage of life trying new s**t, chasing adventures, riding motorcycles, camping, climbing on mountain bikes and generally refusing to act my age… I might as well keep the muscles around to support all of it. πŸ’ͺ

Not to mention having muscle gets your body burning more calories while you're at rest, protects your bones and organs as you age.

Midlife crisis? Maybe.
Midlife strong af? Absolutely!

If your first thought when you want to lose weight or feel better is β€œI need to eat less,” I want you to try something different first.

Eat more. 😍

Not necessarily more calories or bigger portions of everything. Just… more of the good stuff.

More colour. More fruits and vegetables. More protein. More fibre. More variety. More actual food instead of trying to survive on the smallest possible meal because you think that's what being good looks like.

Before you start taking things away, look at what you could add.

- Making eggs? Throw some peppers, spinach or whatever vegetables you have in the fridge in there.
-Having lunch? Add some fruit or veggies and a source of protein.
- Making pasta? Add chicken and vegetables instead of deciding pasta is suddenly the problem.
-Having a snack? Add something that actually gives your body something to work with.

Try this for the next week: before you remove a food, ask yourself what you could add.

More isn't always the answer, but jumping straight to restriction definitely isn't either.

And for the love of all things edible, let's make our salads more interesting while we're at it. πŸ˜‚

Weeknights don't have to be just the end of a work day.

Join me for a paddle after a long day on a weeknight. Was I tired? Yep.

Did I consider going straight home and becoming one with the couch? Also yep. πŸ˜‚

Instead, I grabbed the paddleboard, threw some girl dinner together and went to the beach.

Paddled around, watched the swans, listened to the waves and ate dinner by the water.

Pretty damn glad I went. 😍
Refire Life means trying it, doing it and creating experiences in every day life!

Just me, my motorcycle and whatever concert is happening inside my helmet. πŸ˜‚

The weather was good, the roads were good, the music was good...So naturally I had to dance! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Move in whatever ways make you feel good!

I think there's a point where trying new things starts to change how you live.

At first, everything takes planning. You need the right gear, you need to know where you're going, you need to figure out how the hell you're actually supposed to do the thing. πŸ˜‚

Then you do it a few times. You get a little more comfortable. You learn that you can figure things out as you go. And eventually, you just go!

Throw the bike in the car. Pick a trail. See where it takes you. Maybe you have a plan, maybe you don't. Maybe you end up somewhere cool that wasn't even on the map.

I think that's where some of the freedom starts to happen.

Not because you're suddenly fearless or an expert at everything. You just trust yourself a little more to figure it out.

And the more you try, the easier it becomes to say, β€œWhy not?”

That's the kind of fitness I want more of. The kind that gives you the confidence and ability to go live a little more freely!

So, go on that adventure already! 😎

Charley has figured out a duel use of gym equipment!

I walk on the treadmill.
He brings his ball over, drops it so it rolls off the end, brings it back and does it again.

And again.
And again.

I have to respect the efficiency. πŸ˜‚

He has turned my treadmill into a fetch machine and I'm just living in his world now.

I'm not trying to have a healthier life so I can spend more time being healthy. What I want is more energy for the things I actually give a s**t about.

More mornings outside. More motorcycle rides. More camping trips. More trails I haven't been down yet. More paddling around with nowhere to be. More meals that I actually enjoy. More saying yes when someone suggests doing something I've never tried before.

I want to be able to throw a bike in the car and go.
I want to hike somewhere I've never been.
I want to sit by the water with a coffee and not feel like I should be doing something else.
I want to keep being curious about what my body can do and where it can take me.

That's really what taking care of myself is about. Not just having every workout checked off or a perfect diet.

Just building a body and a life that lets me participate in more of it.

That's the goal for me and I hope it inspires you to consider what health and fitness look like as part of your life instead of a chore ❀️πŸ’ͺ

Here's a boring nutrition tip that actually makes a difference: make the food you want to eat easier to grab.

I don't rely on willpower to make good choices when I'm starving. I try to have things around that make putting together a decent meal pretty damn easy.

Cooked chicken. Eggs. Fruit. Cut-up vegetables. Bagged salad or coleslaw mix. Greek yogurt. Cheese. Some good sauces and seasonings. Whatever works for you.

I don't necessarily meal prep a bunch of identical containers for the week. I like having ingredients ready so I can throw together different things depending on what I'm actually in the mood for.

And this is one of the reasons I like ingredient prep so much!

When the ingredients are ready, eating well doesn't have to be an event. You just need to make it easier to make the choice you already wanted to make!

Out for a motorcycle ride and ended up being a crossing guard. For geese 🀣.

I love when my adventures include wildlife!
